More in line with the topic, I saw on JJ that Phil Green tweeted that Coach is going to Michael Haynes funeral with him. Great to see how much the coach cares about these kids.

Thats where the thread started :)

Greg saw Lav and Phil on the TSA line while they were flying to Chicago

Greg props on being a hard dedicated worker. Now what can you do about security moving faster at the airport?

As I said in the Lavin Twitter thread, when the passengers are aware of and follow the rules, the lines move very quickly. It always comes down to some knucklehead who dosen't realize that gum wrappers (or cigarette packs, or over the counter meds or similar items) set off the metal detector, or that you can't take water bottles through or some other minor thing that holds the line up. I had one guy go through 5 times yesterday and swore to me he had emptied his pockets and was holding up the line. I finally asked him if he had any gum wrappers in his pocket. He said "Gum wrappers?". Sure enough he has gum wrappers in his pockets. They have tin foil on them. This sets the detector off. Go to TSA.gov and find out the rules and empty EVERYTHING out of your pockets and everyone will move faster. It's not us, it's mostly the passengers that slow everything down.

a "pat down" would have been quicker than sending the guy through five times.

back to lavin...a friend tweeted him that he'll be at one of the road games...and lavin got back...offering to meet him at some point.

A pat down wouldn't not be quicker because it takes personell off the line and takes some time to do it correctly. You don't just pat someone down and send him on his way. You have to test your gloves afterward as well. Trust me, Newsie, the reason people hate us is because they are ignorant of what we do and how we do it. Most of my passengers thank us for what we do and the fact that they can feel safe when they board that plane. Once again, there have been NO hijackings and NOONE has gotten any IED's through since 9/11 and we are the reason for that.

i never met anyone who "hates" the tsa. well, maybe mitt romney who's having a harder time taking suitcases of cash to the cayman islands.

it's what many see as the occasional overkill. you have to test your gloves looking for gum wrappers? i buy a bottle of water once i pass security and i still can't take it on the plane? at least we're not forced to travel nude.

no hijackings and no ied's since 9/11...you must admit, much of that is due to the incredible intelligence that's been gathered and developed over the past few years.

Yes, Newsie, that and the fact that that every single passenger gets fully screened every time. You see, the bad guys know that and therefore they don't even try to do anything because they know that they won't succeed. If you took this layer of protection away, they would have a field day just killing us anyway they want. This is evidenced by the fact that Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, and the underwear bomber had to board USA bound airplanes from overseas where the security is all too lax in order to attempt their homicidal mission. I invite you to get a job with us so you can actually get an unbiased understanding of what we do and how we keep everyone safe.
If you are looking for less regulation in the air, go live overseas and take your chances. If you want to stay alive, stay here.

I know. didn't see anything about the fact that he was traveling to attend a funeral of his players friend, which I though was a extremely thoughtful thing for him to do.

FWIW there weren't any hijackings in the US in the 23 years before 9/11 pre TSA either.

Because 1978 through 1993 no one wanted to hurt us that badly. Then we started ignoring the attacks starting with the first Twin Towers attack in 1993 and finally culminating with that sad day in 2001. These threats really started after the first Iraqi war. We had embarrassed the Iraqi's and the rest of the anti-American Middle East so they decided they were going to teach us a lesson. They did on 9/11. The TSA is the end result of that day. It will never happen again and we wil make sure of it.

How is it now 2 threads have been taken over about airport security?? I was a first responder and would like to hear about our basketball team not all the other baggage.

Greg, congrats on the new job! I am sure you will do your job and do it well!
You brought up a very interesting point above regarding overseas airports. Airports in England, Spain, Italy and Greece are so undermanned and poorly supervised that I dread flying from the countries. I boarded a flight in Naples to NY last year and was basically just ushered on board.
The threat is from passengers arriving from overseas and not those leaving from US airports. The "shoe" inspection in the US is a waste of time as are half the boarding restrictions. I have seen 85 year old Jewish ladies checked 3 times and demeaned by TSA agents. Training is sorely lacking for what I see and hopefully you will exercise better judgement with the elderly that are mistreated every day at airports.
As for "terrorists" entering the US it is obvious that it is quite easy, especially for those entering on student visas but to have 6 million enter from Mexico is a national disgrace!
I do not miss the days when we could smoke on board but flying today is torture unless you fly business class.

Lastly, I had the same warm reaction to meeting the coaches...all of them! We finally have coaches that players want to play for and all the staff, from the best trainer in the Big East, to student managers, are all first class and represent St. John's well.
