Hurley quote on Yawkwe

Years ago, he should have decided to try football. Eat and lift like crazy, and try to become some kind of NFL player. He's that athletic that he could have maybe gone that route. It's a shame. He came too late to basketball for it to be natural for him.

He better be hitting the books like crazy right now and get a good degree.

Yakwe played 14 minutes today.

4 pts (2-2 fg, 0-1 FT)
1 block
3 rebounds
5 fouls
Rusty, hasn't played in a few years.
Last night - 11 minutes played, 1 point, 4 rebounds, 0 blocks, 4 turnovers and 4 fouls
He's not rusty - he's one dimensional and not a very good player at the high major level
Whats the one dimension? Fouling?

In case you guys are interested, the Boneyard is accepting applications for membership.

We have two threads talking about uconn (the BE thread is discussing the game against Syracuse as well).

You should all be tied to a chair and forced to watch AAC football.

Dude can you relax. Even Norm started a season 3-0.
True, but it didn't include a win over Syracuse.

UCONN got its man, paying $3 mm even when they had a coach under contract for $3 mm. Even if he was available, we don't pay 3 mm for a coach
When big time donors really cared we were willing to pay Billy Donovan in that range. Being sarcastic of course but we are paying $2 million for a celebrity apprentice. I think an experienced coach would easily be worth an extra million.;) ;)
That's a fantasy that big time donors were willing to fork over those dollars. Actually big time donors, and not the one you think, did kick in to support the Lavin hire. One particular potential donor who even sat on the bench wanted a more direct agreement of pay for play influence, and that isn't the way universities work.

Hurley doesn't sugar coat too much.

Yakwe was a low risk transfer. The roster was thin, and only had to commit to one year. In the meantime they get a body off the bench who isn't completely inexperienced.

He did get enough playing time last year to prove he didn't deserve that much playing time, including a 3 shot foul late vs. georgetown as a desperation 3 was launched by them.
If we got Heron as a result of his schollie I'm very happy. As for playing time, let's not forget he played 14 minutes in his first Uconn game. He wouldn't have gotten off the bench with this team. Of course Yakwe also fouled out in those 14 minutes.;)
One thing most of us fail to realize is that if everyone who leaves stayed, many guys who came here would not have. Say Lovett was still here - Heron probably doesn't come here. We lose a 2 big guys who transfers out, but some because they saw what was on the horizon here.

You know that it's not a fantasy and it's a main reason for hiring Cragg. I'm not talking about a donor writing checks every week to cover the payroll. Belson Stadium and Taffner Field house ring a bell?;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Guess your sarcasm meter is on the fritz. Yakwe is an athlete not a basketball player.

Big deal, even that bum Mullin was able to beat Syracuse twice.

I'm sorry but I'm getting older and my eyes can deceive me. I saw Hurley chest bump his player a few times last night but did he also smack him in the face???? Or was I seeing things.

Love tap done with affection but I can certainly understand why our adm wouldn't want to see such antics on our sidelines.

Sid Wilson now eligible, suits up for next game.

Per Neil Ostrout;
Hurley: “We didn’t stop the season waiting for Sid. Sid’s going to have to earn his minutes in practice.”

Akok Akok has committed to UConn, per his Twitter page. Huge get for Dan Hurley. Will enroll early. One of the top players in 2019.

Stud big man will enroll in January.

Wow good get. #31 recruit who had a pretty low level of schools after him. His list makes it look like he had no desire to leave the NE.

I’m just happy we have two actual inside players in Keita and Steere next season. Should not be as many mismatches from that standpoint. I hope we can still make a push for precious. We will lose some guys, but I think we might reload relatively well. I’m still hoping we can land a big HS recruit or two... FWIW, a big wing like Precious should salivate to play in a wide-open NBA-style offense like we play. Any offensive player should.

Ramblings that Akok might be able to enter NBA draft. Will be interesting to see if he ever suits up for those filthy dogs or not.

I’m hearing that UConn really went hard after Akok. The rallying cry all over campus was: Akok Akok, my kingdom for Akok.
