How did Christian Jones go largely unrecruited?

Agree with everything that has been said but the single rebound has to be somewhat disconcerting. It certainly is to me as that is where we will need the greatest help.

He is a bull who was taking up a lot of space allowing others to board. I don't think it will be a trend. It was one game as well.

You box your man and when the ball leaves the rim you rebound your area. I don't understand your explantation. Also it doesn't account for the offensive end or the fact that Jones had his hands on three rebounds in the first 13 minutes including one he had ripped out by Minnerath (spelling).

I will accept that it was just one game and I don't expect him to be that low again this season.

I'll add that he's almost a clone of UK's freshman Alex Poythress. Same body type, skill set, size etc. really not a huge difference from what I've seen.

Sorry but this is ridiculous.

Agree. Jones is a surprise Big East level player - maybe even all-big east in 2 or 3 years. Poythress is a one and done.

Does a player box out his player 100% of the time? That's simply not possible. What I saw, yes saw was him doing his job and boxing out his guy with another guy on top of him. And that often lead to another player (ie Amir) to come in a get the rebound. The principle is kind of the same as being double teamed with the ball. If two players are covering 1 guy then another guy is open. That is my explanation. I'm sure you won't agree with it ;) Want to wager over/under on how many boards he averages for the year?

Sorry I'll take better notes next time. My notebook ran out of paper and my pen was going dry ;)

Oh darn a rebound got ripped from his hands?!?!? That's never happened before. Let alone a 5th yr sr doing it versus a freshman.

It's only one game, let's leave it at that and not make excuses for him. Honestly, the only reason I took note is because of his alarmingly low rebound averages of 6 and 5 as a senior and prep...especially when undersized PF and former STJ recruit, Jamari Taylor, averaged 12 boards at the same prep school. It's just something to look out for going forward.

Didn't say same level right now. Just strikingly similar games, build height etc. Poythress certainly further ahead at this point, but lots of similarities of you watch them.

It's the body on the kid that gets me. Like HE's the 24 year old recruit, not Sanchez. Hey - maybe that's it - stolen plot line from "The Mentalist" - Christian is really "Christopher" - the 25 year old brother who snuck off to IMG Academy on his baby brothers stolen birth certificate!

Yeah, I have a hard time not picturing him as an upperclassmen on this team even though he's just a young buck. Crazy part is that he's going to get a ton better over time here too.
