After seeing Christian Jones play two times it makes no sense that Christian Jones was not included among the hundreds of names of low, mid and high level recruits for the 2012 cycle in most, if not all recruiting sources.

Christian's high school IMG Academy is a high profile school that plays a competitive schedule which would have provided him with the exposure to any number of talent evaluators watching other players on IMG or teams it played yet he seemingly Christian went unrecruited until June of his senior year.

Even if Christian's skills were late to develop his made for basketball 6'7" build and court savvy should have earned him consideration at mid or low major D1 programs.

1. So let me ask if anyone can explain why Christian Jones went largely unrecruited through his high school.

2. Also after seeing Christian play where should he have been ranked among high school recruits in the 2012 cycle? I would guess that he is a solid top 75.

Thanks.

He is smart, smooth and among a number of studs on our roster. Detroit has a nice team and he acquitted himself real well. Lets game come to him. I was especially impressed with a back to basket move he made against a taller player and had no problem getting his shot off...It didnt fall but he looked real confident in making the attempt. He is a steal!!!!!

Scary things that he's only going to get better. He really says like an upperclassmen and series I think he's one watching him play, but it's just his poise. When he works on his handle a little bit as well as his post moves, he'll really be fantastic. Kudos to the staff on landing this kid. Really an unknown gem and it's rare to find those in the USA lately.

I'll add that he's almost a clone of UK's freshman Alex Poythress. Same body type, skill set, size etc. really not a huge difference from what I've seen.

Funny you should say that....just watching the Kentucky - Duke game...Dickie V raving about his body...and I thought same thing...Jones is built like this kid

Time will tell, but as of right now I'm in completely agreement with you

Based on the skill set that I've seen, I don't know how Lavin signed him as late as he did

No idea how he was on nobody's radar? Kid is built like a senior and isn't missing all too much in his game. Looks like a lot of people dropped the ball except our staff. Good for us.

Agree with everything that has been said but the single rebound has to be somewhat disconcerting. It certainly is to me as that is where we will need the greatest help.

I have to think Jones was a late bloomer, relatively speaking of course. Not comparing him to Michael Jordan, but Jordan at 15 couldn't crack his HS varsity team, even though his 15 year old friend did. It would be interesting to see video of Jones as a sophomore or junior in HS to see if he dramatically developed during this time in high school.

OVES NEXT GAME

YES lets hope that improves and is not a trend

He is a bull who was taking up a lot of space allowing others to board. I don't think it will be a trend. It was one game as well.

I saw him in the two exhibition games but not in Tuesday's game(working). This kid looks like a bull. He will be a terrific 4 year player. Great find Coach L!

Video of Christian Jones from a dunk contest TWO years ago....

CR

Your above video indicates that Christian had a basketball build and skills 2 years ago.

When Christian Jones committed to St. John's he was not even included in the long list of players in the 2012 cycle by Rivals, ESPN, Scout, or any recruiting service I know of.

Have you ever seen a kid as talented as Christian be as lightly recruited as he apparently was?

Thanks.

I read somewhere that he was recruited by Baylor and Marquete ,which seems oddt because he wasnt rated by the recruiting services.

I have absolutely no clue how this kid could have been under the radar. I assumed he lacked quickness, or had grade issues, or attitude issues. But none of those are apparently true. He played at a school that claims 6 players from the squad got D-1 rides - that means innumerable college coaches HAD to have been scouting IMG accademy. We know that he played AAU ball on a ateam with Jamal Branch - so we know THAT team had to be scouted. I know good players can get left out of the top 100. Phil Greene is a good example. But this kid isn't even in Hoopscoops top 350!

It makes no sense whatsoever to me. Because the kid is MORE than just "good". It's only been a couple of exhibitions and one legit game, but it's OBVIOUS his is a legit High D-1 Player.

Maybe the closest I've seen was Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. But there was a legit reason for his lack of ranking - when he arrived from Africa, he was 6'5 185 lbs, and playing guard at Montverde Academy as a Junior. Ben Howland spotted him there wile recruiting another Montverde kid (believe it was Idong Idok, the 7 footer who ended up playing for Izzo at Michigan State). Luc was completely off the "recruiters" radar - but he was still known. Florida, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and I believe Auburn had also offered him. Of course, by the time he finally arrived at UCLA, he was a 6'7 228 lb power forward, who still had the lateral quickenss of that 6'5 185 guard - maybe the best natural defender I've ever seen - and the absolute defensive key to 3 final four teams...

Sorry but this is ridiculous.
