One thing that is noticeable. Lavin has a swagger, and a presence that winners have, and it rubs off on his players. I'm not sure if Dunlap does, but I do think the absence of Lavin on the sidelines adversely affects this team.

I agree and hope it is only temporary. It is suggested that he will devote his time to recruiting so his presence on the bench does not appear to be imminent.

Hope so since everyday I read more top schools getting involved and getting attention from top 2012 2013 prospects
Do not see us even being mention Its like we lost our mojo

I still can't see us bringing in another 6 person class like lavin said..... I can see 3-4 but not 6

I.too, have no idea what Lavin is talking about. We might have a total of 6 recrruits interested in us. If ,however, We can get Gathers and Pelle or Chris O, we ll be in good shape.

He might consider Amir part of the 2nd 6. Which would then be 5 more needed. Wood already on board and Gathers in good shape its not totally out of the question.

Medical decisions involving a person and his/her doctors are private, confidential info and properly so. However, Steve, making his announcement after last season public, brings some questions into play..

He was diagnosed last Fall 2010 in his first season as Coach but, waited until fall 2011 for his surgery? Surely, he postponed treatment last year but, one wonders why he didn't have the surgery done right after March 2011, a full 6 months before he actually did.

Waiting, as he did until this Fall to have the prostate surgery done, would clearly impact his early season coaching, as it has.

Likely, there are several reasons why he waited so long but, i don't recall it being made public as to why he delayed?

At this point, it might be a decision for him to rehab all this season and, not return to the bench? I'm sure he and his doctors will make that decision.

I agree with HOOPS that Steve 's persona is what drives the team and, Dunlap, even as a right hand Assistant, does not project that leadership and charisma.

It's a tough luck situation for Steve, the BB team and the University. Let's hope his recovery speeds on..

I do believe Lavin's mission here at SJU is to build a year in/year out BE contender and to challenge for a NCAA championship eventually. I think that is clearly his objective as well as those who brought him here.

Lavin has said Doctors advised on a wait and see approach. Thats what they did and unfortunately things changed. What's done is done.

I'm going to think that we are going to get someone that none has talked about. 6 seems like a lot but if Lavin said that it makes me think that he has something up his sleeve in that he's pretty confident with a kid or 2. The 1 silver lining is with him devoting more time to recruiting right now as he recuperates he's going to get back in the game with some recruits possibly that maybe we weren't going after as hard this past year since we didn't know the NCAA was going to screw us up with our 3 kids

Nothing personal but we should take your opinion over coach Lavin who by the way has the power to determine how many recruits we sign. Perhaps he is already tired of playing short handed.

Still can't figure who would round out that class??

Just throwing it out there to show its possible.

1. Amir
2. Wood
3. Gathers
4. Jakarr
5. Pelle
6. Obekpa
7. Anyone else.

Not that far fetched

what uncertainty is hoops talking about? you play six guys and a norm holdover and you're going to lose games no matter who's on the sideline. that's as certain as death and taxes.

oh, i wonder what mr. repole thought when hoops wrote it was father harrington who greenlighted all that money for the coaching staff.

Malik Nichols and a transfer or two he may be aware of?

Unfortunately, we have been going backwards with our recruits,1 decommit after another, and nobody seems to count Jevon Thomas as a decommit. I would have felt better if Gathers and Pelle just waited untill spring, instead of decommiting. I am not saying Lavin can not turn it around, but the recruiting has been dissappointing lately.
