Homeland And All Things Maher

Can you or anyone give me the red light/green light on Iron Eagle? Gosset’s got me
Definitely the first one though I haven't seen it in more than three decades so not sure how it holds up. Cannot confirm whether the three(?) sequels are any good. (I probably saw Iron Eagle 2 but it apparently didn't leave a lasting impression.)

Three action-war movies of that era:

"Uncommon Valor" with Gene Hackman: Rescuing POWs from Vietnam before Rambo made it fashionable.

"Force 10 from Navaronne" with Harrison Ford, Carl Weathers, Robert Shaw: This was on replay all the time on HBO when I was a kid. It's your typical behind enemy lines WW2 popcorn flick.

"Red Dawn" the most Cold War turned Hot War flick you will ever see this side of "The Day After." It actually scared the crap of me when I was a kid. Russians invade the U.S. and a rag tag group of teens kill a bunch of them.

Another Gene Hackman Vietnam Movie Bat21. The book was absolutely riveting

That ending was so contrived, and what, for shock-value?

Unrealistic and unnecessary ending to an otherwise good movie. That's just my opinion.
Truth be told BJR I watched it with my wife and 23 year old son and we kind of liked the ending, but loved the whole movie. Thought it was a very generous hearted flick.

Cross off Passenger 57 from the list.

Current 80’s/90’s action power ranking of ones I’ve just recently watched/rewatched

Cliffhanger - Great ensemble. Great opener
Hard To kill - Blood bank baby!
Predator - Machine guns and vulgar jokes
Passenger 57 - Always bet on black
Blood sport - Splits? Yes
Toy solders - Lou Gosset and Sean Astin A+
The running man - fun, dumb
Blade runner - didn’t hit for me

The fugitive is on deck

The Fugitive and Out For Justice in the books..

The Fugitive - Harrison made up for Blade Runner but Tommy stole the show
Cliffhanger - Great ensemble. Great opener
Out For Justice - Anybody seen Richie!? Awful Seagal accent made it so much better

Since you had a good experience with the Fugitive which I agree is fantastic take a look at Patriot games

And when you get to late 90s watch enemy of the state another movie I have watched at least 20 times and one of the reasons mjmaherjr had a flip phone till a couple years before covid

Hackman is my favorite of all time. Enemy of the state is great. I loved will smith a lot more when he would act with other great actors (EOTS, Men in black, bad boys) instead of it being him vs the world. Only about 27 of those.. I Robot, I am legend, Hancock etc

Hackman was great and also loved him in his non leading man roles like the Superman movies, the Birdcage, Crimson Tide, etc.

Really lost a lot of respect and interest in Will Smith when he did that non sense with Chris Rock. Still really hasn’t come back from that.
