Heron Named to Pan Am Team

Chris Mullin , the Player, we all know was the best ever at St John’s .. Likely not many posters ever saw Sonny Dove play .. Sonny was a great Player, All American and first round NBA Draft Choice in the mid 60’s. He was 6’8” and maybe weighed 205 if he carried a Anvil onto the scale with him. He often played Center , despite his slight frame . Back in his Day , he only played 3 years as Freshman were not eligible . Sonny had a silky smooth game , shooting , rebounding , the whole gamut . A great one for sure..

Great description of Sonny's game Sly. I attended my first St. John's games during Dove's first year on the varsity and he will forever be one of my all time favorite Johnnies. Great player who, like Malik Sealy, left us way too early.

Sonny Dove was the 4th player chosen in the 1967 Draft.

It´s the best position ever by a SJU player in the Draft.

By the Detroit Pistons.

With the next pick, the New York Knicks (who probably wanted Dove, though I don't know that for a fact) took a PG from Southern Illinois. I think he had an impact.

Based more on their being winners and consistently leading their teams to post-season play -- and their being special to watch.:)
