Heron Injury Update
So will this be a real "Day-to-Day" situation or will it be similar to Lovett's Knee fiasco?
So you think Heron might not come back because he wants to protect his ability to make money playing basketball? I think not. If Heron doesn’t come back it is because he can’t; the young man is much too classy for that kind of subterfuge.

Glad to hear this is potentially relatively minor, and no need to hold him out any longer than needed if he's ready to go for Albany or Zona.

But if there is any question at all, this is basically the best time on the entire schedule for a ~21 day break to get ready for Butler.

I agree that it's a relief to hear that Heron will be ok. That injury potentially looked really really bad.

I understand Mike and the doctors will make the best possible decision for Heron.

I don't think or know anything in regards to your first question. I don't care about classy. Everyone on this forum has a vested interest in Heron playing for St. John's. I know that he has had knee tendinitis issues, and now this ankle injury. I also know that great basketball players have a limited amount of time to make relatively large sums of money. The financial considerations and risks in playing professional sports are now to great to simply ignore.

For the record, I don't believe this will be a Lovett situation. But it wouldn't be completely out of this world if the dude wants to protect his future value and sit out. You're starting to see it in college football and I think you'll start to see the trend more in basketball.

Right now Heron has nothing to protect. He needs to show his potential employers that he can play basketball on a professional level next year. He can't do that sitting on the bench of a college team of which he is supposed to be a leader.

Amen! College football players that sit out bowl games are usually first round (or at worst second round) picks . No offense to Heron, but he is at best a marginal draft choice with a declining stock based upon performance year to date. Voluntarily sitting out makes absolutely no sense for him.

Straight up if he thinks he shown enough to sit out then he's badly mistaken. He had plenty of no shows this year.

We have no indication Heron thinks this at all. This is just fodder by posters on this site. For all we know MH wants to play badly and is bugging the coach to practice. Unless anything is made public by MH himself, I am gong to assume he is anxious to play. People love to invent scenarios and then start blaming the kid for a made up scenario. I am glad MH suits up for SJ and he has done nothing but been a good citizen as a student athlete at SJ. He had options but stayed at SJ while his old coach was shown the door and a new coach arrived. Hope he continues to play well this year and has a prosperous pro career somewhere.

Right now, people are doing Mr. Heron a huge disservice by even speculating about this. He has struggled at times on the court but has done absolutely nothing that I am aware of to deserve anything like this. He has a bright future on or off the court and has earned better than how some posts are treating him with pure speculation.

Heron is a great kid and as Paultzman notes who lives up in CT Heron is very active with charities etc. We are lucky to have high character kids like him

And you think he is really going to show a whole lot while playing against teams like Albany, or that scouts are going to be impressed by that?

First and foremost, he needs to make sure that he is fully healed and 100% before he tries to come back. Sprains can be a lingering issue, and the last thing he would want to do is potentially injure it even further. If he doesn't let it heal properly, it may still be bothering him well after the season, and that could really hurt his pro chances.

I don't know where the thoughts of heron sitting out/Lovett situation have come up but if you have been at the games/open practice, you would know how Heron has taken pride in his leadership role and is a very forceful, enthusiastic supporter/leader of "his team". I can not see him letting them down, I would worry more about him trying to do too much, too soon for the sake of theteam.

Speaking of Marcus, he still shows us a lot of love on his Twitter Page...

And clearly he’s not worried about being PC

Since you went there, it is obvious from your initial post you not only don’t care about classy, you probably wouldn’t recognize it if it ran you over. As others have posted, Heron doesn’t remotely deserve such baseless speculation.

I never said that's what he was doing.
I'm going by what others have said. Then said "if" he thinks that, not that's what he's doing.

Me personally, I don't think he's doing that, but in the beginning of Lovett's injury no one was thinking that, and what happened? JS.

I dont even understand why this is even being discussed. He hurt his ankle, that is all. He just celebrated his birthday with his team and coach who shares the same. Enough with doomsday scenarios. He will 100% be back as soon as he is able

Had to reread the last few pages to see if I missed any news. I didn't. Here is the series of events:

1. Heron has a major injury in the closing minutes of a close game.
2. We win the game by 10+.
3. Everyone is happy we won, but concerned that Heron may be done for the season.
4. We find out the injury isn't as bad as initially thought, and he should be back after a couple games.
5. Some people give terrible takes based on no evidence whatsoever.

Not sure how we got to 5, but it doesn't really matter as it has no basis in reality. It's possible we can simply have good news every once in a while.
