have the moderators...

...of this once enjoyable website ever given consideration to returning to the closed enrollment? I would gladly give up my opportunity to offer my (mostly useless) observations for the chance to return to a site that doesn't have 10 new threads a day focused on the same recycled point and agenda driven posters who insist on spaming every thread with uninformed speculation intending to influence the program. I guess this is my open letter/fire posters/how many different threads do we need about the lack of 2014 recruits/how many players can be influenced into leaving the program so we can hire some poster's flavor of the month thread

It's not up to us moderators is up to the site owner Paul.

Unfortunately when times are bad it's brings out the worst on be message boards.

I have rarely started any threads and really do not care who starts one but the mods do an excellent job in combining similar threads when needed. It is also officially the off season for our program and the only logical subjects would be recruiting, whether 2014 or imaginary 2016 recruits that Lavin alludes to. Tom starting a thread about Obekpa is a real concern to fans here as it would make this non-rebounding front court starved team the smallest and most vulnerable in the conference. Closing the site to a few of us old timers is absurd when our program and this site needs new young blood. Starting a thread about "have the moderators.." is just as bad as anything you mentioned so things must be boring in Indianapolis. LOL!

gman is right and my opinion is probably best served sent as a private message to Paul. '72 is right to call out my passive aggressive thread for being no better than what my complaint is (although Indianapolis is bustling today:). It's just a bit sad to see a tweet or story in the news, come to the site to see if it's confirmed and find it already buried in agenda, uninformed speculation, and program bashing. I often found comfort knowing there were fans as passionate about the program, now I navigate the site the way I pick which news outlet suits my political interests. My opinion of this coach is still forming and incomplete (I think any program barring scandal deserves 5years, even Coach Roberts). I'm disappointed with this season too and an just as eager to see which kids can be brought in to form the team. In the meantime, coach and player bashing ad naseum serves little purpose and makes this fan long for the days when only a thread a week or month was dedicated to that endevour

No way.

I don't want to go through the embarrassment again of being affiliated with a board mocked as "yesmen.com."

They say words don't hurt. But they do brother. They do.

i tend to agree. Would forfeit my membership in a second in exchange for being able to read coherent, competent and committed people post on here. At the end of the day I support whatever Paul decides though.

Just an example of how new people on here have come to stir stuff up. A guy created a thread admonishing the entire team, coaching staff and program. While I don't disagree a fair amount of people haven't pulled their weight on this team, I found his thread to be ludicrous and told him to take a hike. This jerk PM's me asking twice why I personally attacked him. I don't want to deal with that kind of nonsense.

The mods do what they can to merge duplicative threads. Your post is a good reminder to people to try to stay on topic in a thread, which is always a challenge, but is important to the readability of the site. We are generally reluctant to delete people's posts or to move them from one thread to another, so instead we try to encourage people to police themselves.

The other two main things that contribute to lack of readability are (1) people who feel compelled to respond to every single post and to make their points over, and over, and over; and (2) back-and-forth between posters along the lines of "you're stupid" "no, you are," etc. We have repeatedly asked people to make their point and then move on, and to avoid bullying, belittling, etc. Obviously it isn't helpful when a mod asks someone to do that and their response is to mouth off to the moderator, which sometimes happens.

Thanks for reminding people that their site behavior affects their fellow posters (and creates work for the mods, who all have day jobs and are volunteers here).

Well said. A lot of these people weren't around during the winning streak in the middle of the year. Unfortunately people love to hate on our team.

A lot of the negativity surrounds Jakarr, leaving, and worries we will not have enough depth down low next season. I say we reserve judgment until we know who Lav brings in and until our roster is finalized for next season. For all we know, tomorrow Lav signs a 7'1 JUCO center that no one has ever heard about. That's why I feel we should reserve judgment on the front court of our team, until we know what our roster will look like.

That behavior was reserved for the good old days of the R&P. Redundacy, bullying, belittling, and spamming every thread was encouraged and a badge of honor. I get emotional just thinking about it.

There is a one and done in Texas that would star and start immediately. Let the staff know asap!

.... and along those lines I just deleted three off-topic posts from this thread.

Thanks for your cooperation, guys.

While I agree some of these posts form new posters gets annoying I can absolutely say that closing membership wont solve any problems because what you will find out that when things go bad the rest of us current members can be just as annoying when we are unhappy

As much as I love myself and staring all day at what I write I can assure you it's not fun when it's just 5 of us saying the same thing. Heck even MCNPA is ready to form a search committee

I have been a member of this board since it's beginning. It was a place that I enjoyed coming to and posting and reading thoughts of other posters. The one thing we all had in common was our undying love and loyalty to the Redmen. When things were good, we enjoyed it when not so good, we all seemed to suffer together thru it. We had a closed enrollment to the board and that seemed to keep things on an even keel.
Things have changed. We now have a board where the norm is to bitch and cry over the state of out program. Some posters on here sound like frustrated would be coaches. There is a vitriol that is palpable. The negativity and redundant posts make it almost suffocating. One thread after another negative or repeating the same crap over and over again. Many of these negative posts are coming from relatively new members many with not too many posts.
I don't think we should be all of one thought. But after saying whats on your mind we don't need it repeated over and over again, the result of many people feeling the need to pile on. Have your say and leave it there.
We are not administrators of our athletic department. No matter how much we yell and scream, the only people who hear are the guys who love to pile on and keep the negativity alive.
We had a post on here called "Fire Lavin", quite honestly I thought the title alone was a disgrace. I thought about writing this for quite a while, thinking what good would it do. Probably none. I am sure some posters who will read this and cuss me out. That's ok too. I graduated from SJU in 1961. Probably before most of you were born. I was the first college grad in my family. I am proud of that, I am proud of the things SJU have accomplished, But every now and then you will see a post putting the school down. SJU provided me with an excellent education. It gave me the opportunity to develop a standard of living that I could only dream about.
Things have to change, or this board will spiral into oblivion. I want a great program, one where we all can be proud, but until that comes about I will still bleed for the school and our beloved basketball team. I will not, however bitch and moan if it isn't happening quickly enough.

Well said. It's one thing to make the occasional Phil Greene or Sean Evans barb but people have put some nasty stuff on here in recent weeks. And seemingly all/most of it comes from people who just created a username and are posting for the first time. In a small way this site is a reflection of the program. We all are entitled to differing opinions but there is no need to take it to the levels some people have.

get over yourself...a messageboard for fans is a place to post opinions, let off steam, argue/debate, and joke with fellow fans. Who are you to say what is useless, spam, or uninformed?

While I disagree with the idea of closing registration again ( I was very happy when I was able to join, after just reading for many years), one can make the argument that many posts on here are useless and uninformed. People say the same things over and over, to the point of being tedious and annoying. Other people state opinion as if it was fact or just make things up in order to support their position. Others start feuds with those they disagree with. Some of it is very childish. Some people even create new identities just to come on and compliment and agree with their previous posts. SMH!

Mike, I don't want to take sides, because I like reading those posts of yours that are balanced and informative. But Indyredmen07, unlike myself, who gets pissed reading nonsense and my posts reflect that, is a very respectful and tolerant poster. For my two cents, if he writes something, it's not in malice, and only meant to better this board. So don't take his post personally because I don't think he directed it solely at you. Thanks!

You just proved indyredman's point. Why the personal attack? Couldn't you just state your disagreement in a different way?
