Today D'Angelo Harrison passed Willie Glass to become the 17th leading scorer in St. John's history. Barring injury or suspension he is likely to make it into the top ten this year. If he continues on and plays through next season he is likely to wind up as the school's third highest scorer behind only Chris Mullin and Malik Sealy. No matter how you slice it that is a significant achievement at a school with as rich a basketball tradition as St. John's.
Here is the list:

1) Chris Mullin 2440
2) Malik Sealy 2402
3) Felipe Lopez 1937
4) Bob Zawoluk 1826
5) Zendon Hamilton 1810
6) George Johnson 1763
7) David Russell 1753
8 Glen Williams 1727
9) Tony Jackson 1603
10) Sonny Dove 1576
11) Wayne McKoy 1536
12) DJ Kennedy 1504
13) Billy Schaeffer 1484
14) Anthony Glover 1434
15) Lavor Postell 1427
16) Walter Berry 1424
17) D'Angelo Harrison 1422

I can't believe the No. 3 and 5 scorers spent their whole careers together and didn't accomplish more.

I can't believe the No. 3 and 5 scorers spent their whole careers together and didn't accomplish more.

They played two years with #15 as well as a year with a future NBA All Star! Sub out Turner for Barkley and that team goes to the Final Four.

Looks like he will crack the top 10 when all is said and done this season. That is quite the feat, considering some of those names on the list.

Because they seemed to only care about getting on that list. Individual ststs matter more than wins and losses.

The list should include the number of games each player played in. It seems like the teams play more games each season now.

The 94-95 team also had the talented James Scott and the completely underutilized Roshown McLeod, who then transferred to Duke. I still can't forgive Mahoney for how he handled McLeod. But you're correct, our 2 point guards, Turner and Mo Borwn,. where our achilles heals. Them and the coach.

Most of these players did not have the advantage of the 3 pt play either! Who knows how points Mullin would have finished with had the 3 pt play been around.

it should include your team's record. Who cares about how many points you score if your team isn't winning.

also Harrison is 53rd in the country in FG attempts and his 39% is only better then 4 of those guys. I'd gladly give up a few pts a game from him for a better percentage

Also many were eligible only 3 years.

Yes, and unless he gets hurt he is going to be number 3 all time by the end of his career.

With this scoring comparison you have to take into account when the 3 pt short came in. I do remember. If it started from # 17 and up ok If the ones above Harrison could not benefit from it then the #s are skewed

Forget the 3 point shot influencing the career point totals. How about the freshmen ineligibility rule and the expansion of the season schedule.
Tony Jackson played 76 games in his career and he didn't miss a game. Today's players will play between 130 and 140. Scoring 1000 points in a career was considered an achievement up to 1970. Now it would mean averaging about 7 and one half points a game.

D Lo's biggest achievement was getting his anger issues under control and coming back after the suspension. A lot of players in his position would have blamed their coach and transferred or quit school and tried to make it overseas. Good job by Harrison.

...as well as academic all big east.

I understand that there are more games per season, there is four year eligibility now and there is the 3 point rule which all enhance career scoring totals but Harrison's scoring achievement is significant. I also agree that his biggest achievements have been made off the court and realize that this could have taken a different course. Kudos to D'Angelo for having the strength of character, discipline and humility to make those personal changes in his life.

For a different perspective on scoring stats, here are the top ten St. John's players by career points per game average.

1) Marcus Hatten 21.2
2) Tony Jackson 21.1
3) Mel Davis 20.9
4) Bob Zawoluk 20.1
4) Walter Berry 20.1
6) Chris Mullin 19.5
7) Sonny Dove 19.0
8 Malik Sealy 18.9
9) Billy Schaeffer 18.8
10) Alan Seiden 18.3

This. IMHO, is what most impresses me about Harrison this year. Along with his academic achievements, he deserves a ton of respect for this.

He will finish 3rd in scoring when all is said and done.
But he has tattoos
And he glares at people
And has anger management issues
And a 3 point line
And the team plays more games
And fans will make comments like I wish we had less scoring from him and more wins.

In other news the sky is blue.

Big East coaches respect him and hopefully everyone appreciates he is only a Junior. He, Jordan, Branch and Greene will give us a solid backcourt next year in what's often referred to as a "Guards Game". Get a couple of bangers and we can make some noise. Harrison is a critical component of that, warts and all.

Would have a much higher 3 point % if he would forgo his opening tip 3 point heat check that he seems to not be able to live without.

I think we can all agree that it is a wasted possession to start every game.
