Just another story I want to share about Coach Carnesecca and his roots as a person. This a story after his years with the Nets and some terrific years with good St. John's teams. It shows his attention , concern, interest and need for all alumni and subway alumni.
At the start of the season in the 70's heard a story that Reggie Carter was being suspended by the NCAA . I called the athletic department to obtain information and got one of the assistant coaches. I was told to read the story in the Long Island Newsday and was not given any other information . Newsday was not available where I lived and there was no internet in those days.
Wrote a letter to Coach Carnesecca describing my experience with the athletic department. Upon receipt of my letter, the Head Coach Carnesecca called my home and my father answered . My Father was hard of hearing and only at the house so my Wife could go shopping and he could be with the kids. So I could imagine the difficulty of leaving a message.
Somehow received the message that some Coach called and that I should call .
Called back and Coach Carnesecca sincerely apologize for the athletic department and explained the suspension of Carter { 2game suspension for playing a exhibition game] He also sought of beg me to see him before the game at the Lapchick tournament . He welcome me and my family before the game but you could see his mind was on the game.
That is only one of the stories ,I shared some others before. To my mind there will never be better Coach ,on and off the court, than Coach Carnesseca.. You have given us so much joy ,so we wish you a very Happy Birthday
