That was after beating Seton Hall at the Garden for his 500th career win. We put that picture in the front page on The Torch.

Bill Raftery too, who dubbed his son “Looie”
Reminds me of a story Raftery has often mentioned. SJU is blowing out Seton Hall by 30 points at Alumni Hall and he has someone on his staff give Looie a hand written note asking him what kind of defense he wants to work on. Classic stuff.
Raft has some great Looie stories and often fondly refers to his eminence as "Luigi".
Bruce Beck of WNBC sports had some terrific interviews with him, he really admires him.
My wife, mother-in-law and mother who are (were) not sports fans one iota all liked Looie, he transcended sports.
Bruce Beck was also the weekly host on the Lou Carnesecca show on MSG Network from 1986-1992.

Had a few pops back in the day w Raft at one of his favorite NYC eateries El Vagabondo, a really legit & funny guy.
Raft walked into the (now closed) Angelo's and Maxie's steakhouse on Park Ave South with a bunch of suits, saw us Johnnies at another table and came by and chatted us up for a bit. Really nice and funny guy. More self-deprecating than even Looie.
I loved that place. Bocce court in the back.
