G'Town's Otto Porter to NBA

Now I am really curious to see who will be the pre-season favorite to win the 2014 Big East. Marquette, Villanova, Butler??? Georgetown still has a dynamic backcourt, maybe even us given that Harrison seems to be on track to return and with our new additions?

I dont think we will be picked #1, but with the team we have going forward, we have a chance to win the league. Espec w/ guys like Porter and Vander Blue leaving for the pros. Id rather go in under the radar anyway.

I agree Storm Tracker, I would be surprised if we are selected pre-season number one, but I am curious to see who the so called experts see as the top teams in 2014, seems like we can end up with a very balanced league.

I absolutey think we can win this league, but we should not be a favorite based solely on the fact that this team hasn't proven a thing. Nova returns all its big pieces besides Yarou, and could be a top 15 team this year. G'town returns its entire roster besides a 2013 lottery pick, Otto Porter, from a 25-win team. They are always solid or better. Marquette loses three starters, but they are very well coached and have some good returning players as well as some top recruits coming in. What they did this past year can't be ignored...nobody thought they'd be that good. I think we are #4 behind those teams, ahead of Butler and Creighton (way ahead if McDermott doesn't come back).

Marquette should be the favorite.

I forgot about Smith, I remember he did damage against us when we played UCLA in Lavin's first season, but since then he has struggles with his weight and staying in shape.

I think Gtown will be.
They get that mountain of a center from UCLA this season, Josh Smith.

I forgot about Smith. A lot of poundage in this new conference between Davonte Gardner, Josh Smith, and Jayvaughn Pinkston. Another reason we really need GG!

If McDermott leaves, do we have the preseason player of the year?

My vote would got to Jakarr Mase, because I think he can be dominant on both ends of the floor next season.

But I don't know what to expect from the coaches/writers (who picks the pre-season POY anyway?)
I could see them selecting an upperclassmen like Napier if he's back or Bryce Cotton. I think they were both 1st team All BE this season.

Honestly, last fall I would've expected Harrison to be a favorite for POY going into his junior year. But even though it looks like he's coming back, I think his numbers take a dip. Not a knock on him, just too much talent around now, D'lo won't be getting 20 shots a game anymore.

Napier wont be in our conference next year Desco, and I just dont think cotton has that kind of reputation for some reason. Im sure that both D'lo and Jakarr will get votes if McDermott doesnt come back.

My bad! It's still weird to think we won't be in a conference with UCONN or Syracuse (i was about to throw CJ Fair's name onto that list too)
But I agree with you Mase, I would vote Jakarr. I just could see the coaches/writers going with a more experienced guy. Maybe Cleveland Melvin? I don't know. just throwing names out there. Nobody on Hall, Nova, or Georgetown I would nominate. Maybe Vander Blue?

Haha it sure is hard to keep track. Pretty sure vander blue is gone to the NBA but he would have been an option, also think Devonte Gardner could make a run for the Post-season and more important version of the reward. There really isnt a guy who stands out which is why I think our guys have a chance. Im a bigger fan of D'angelos game but that is no slight to Jakarr. Im hoping the added offensive weapons help both of them realize they dont have to do it all by themselves.

McDermott for sure if he stays...that part is easy :) If he goes, I think it's either Sampson, Cotton, or Pinkston.

Agree but would take D'lo over those three. Just my opinion.

How about Semaj Christon of Xavier?

Good player, actually kind of reminds me of Rysheed a little bit. Don't think he would win it over any of those others mentioned though.
