Greatest TV Theme Songs
How old are all of you? :p
Get off my lawn squirt!
Seriously my favorite was pre 70's theme for the show Route 66. I was going to travel cross country in a red Corvette when I graduated college. I got drafted instead and saw more than I dreamed of.
BJ and The Bear too
Wow.....don't remember the song, but loved the show. As a kid, I thought it was reasonable that my first car would be an 18-wheeler rig.

One answer as to the best-BONANZA! When the show started I used to get my stick with the horses head on it and ride it around the living room all the while loudly humming the theme song in a near psychotic state. BONANZA baby and it's not even close!
Shame on everyone who didn't list "Greatest American Hero" or "The A-Team."
That song from Greatest American Hero was on the radio all the time.

Maybe not the greatest but undoubtedly the most played was “Johnny’s Theme” for Johnny Carson and The Tonight Show, interestingly enough written by 50’s teen idol Paul Anka. Anka also wrote “My Way” which Sinatra obviously made his own.

Apparently I've befallen the screen name swap with someone. Rawhide would not make my list.

Lol was thinking the same thing. Sopranos may not be “the best” but God damn it’s a bad ass theme song.
Sopranos would be my top.
X-files
Friends I wasn’t a fan of, but it actually got radio play.
Scrubs
The Wire

Of all the songs Paul Anka wrote, the one he made the most money on was actually "She's a Lady", which was a big hit for Tom Jones.

I saw him live in Atlantic City, sometime around the late 90s or early 00s. He put on a great show. Did all his old songs, and entertained a lot in between, too.

Love reading this thread this morning. My favorite is not a popular one or even a catchy one but the theme to the White shadow is pretty funky :)

True that, he also wrote a song that frequently makes “worst song” lists “(You’re) Having My Baby” a duet with a female singer whose last name was Coates, forget her first name. A hit in the early to mid 70’s. One note, I believe “She’s A Lady” sold the most records of all the songs he wrote but he got residuals every time “Johnny’s Theme” was played on the Tonight Show, which was multiple times a night forever. Far and away his biggest $maker. It actually was a re-write of a jazz song Anka had previously written that Carson liked. I am not sure if they were ever sung but Carson wrote lyrics to the tune at Anka’s suggestion so they shared the residuals as co-writers.

Agreed. This has been a great walk down memory lane. Funny how I can't remember where I left my car keys but I can still nail they lyrics of almost every one of those theme songs from the 70s and 80s.
