My wife and I started randomly talking about TV theme songs last night and we came to the conclusion that the 70s was the greatest era for TV theme songs. Some we came up with:

[ul]
[li]Chico & The Man (Jose Feliciano)[/li]
[li]Sanford & Son[/li]
[li]Barney Miller[/li]
[li]Hill St. Blues[/li]
[li]Streets of San Francisco[/li]
[li]MASH[/li]
[li]The Jeffersons[/li]
[li]Welcome Back Kotter[/li]
[li]Starsky & Hutch[/li]
[li]Dukes of Hazzard (Waylon Jennings)[/li]
[li]Taxi[/li]
[/ul]
Honorable Mention to Bosom Buddies which first aired in 1980. Song by Billy Joel

Three’s Company,
The Love Boat
Happy Days
All in the Family
Charlie’s Angels

Suicide is Painless, the M*A*S*H theme song was the best

re: All in the Family, There was a special on Hulu recently where they had Norman Lear (in his 90s) and redid the first episode with Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei. Tomei was very good. They sang the theme song and she kinda nailed it.

John Sebastian wrote and sang the Welcome Back Kotter theme song. A quality piece of music.

A couple of so bad they were good ones from the 1960s - the Adams Family and Branded (starring Chuck Connors).

I remember a few years ago my son was in 7th or 8th grade and he brought home this nerdy looking friend and they had this idea to start a band. The kid brought a bass so I thought I'd stump him and I asked him if he could play the bass from the Barney Miller theme song. I figured he wouldn't even know what that show was. he knew it and played it instantly.

well if we are going to go there then you could add Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Lost in Space, The Monkees, Wonder Woman... :cheer:

The Adventures of Superman
Lone Ranger
Equalizer
M Squad
Hawai 5-O

My favorites (leaving out many more, some of which have been named on here already):

1. Cheers
2. Dallas
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation
4. The Jeffersons
5. Welcome Back, Kotter
6. The Golden Girls
7. The Big Bang Theory

The list order is somewhat informal, after the first two. Like I said, I'm leaving out a lot more. too.

That was on ABC back in May, and aired live.

They didn't do the first All in the Family. They did Henry's Farewell, which was also George Jeffersons's first episode.

They followed that up by doing the first (regular) episode of The Jeffersons, and Marla Gibbs came back as Florence.
How old are all of you? :p
Lol was thinking the same thing. Sopranos may not be “the best” but God damn it’s a bad ass theme song.
How old are all of you? :p
the scarier thing is how old was I when I started posting here and how old I am now :)
Theme from Peter Gunn
I had to look that one up as it was before my time and never caught it in reruns. I knew the music but from The Blues Brothers movie. Henry Mancini though is one of the masters in Film/TV.
