Good Luck Christian Jones

Truth is I am sad to see him go. I wish him all the very best and trust the staff implicitly but I love the progress he made this past season and felt next year could have also been very positive had he continued to work hard under the tutelage of the staff. He never complained or caused trouble and represented the school well. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

CJ certainly did himself a world of good with his play this year
It will create many options for him - another college or professionally overseas
Selfishly, I wish he had decided to come back - he could have helped us next year
Most importantly, I am very pleased to see that he will earn his degree this spring
He was an asset to our program and I wish him well in his future endeavors

I was disappointed w CJ in the beginning of this year and last year. But, I agree, he has improved a lot, and is a big body. He could have provided depth and exp. next year. Than he would be gone leaving a spot for an open scholi in 17. I , too am disappointed he is leaving.

I'm not disappointed he's leaving, but he definitely became a productive player. To the point where he was near unstoppable for Marquette to handle. We will be fine without him as well though, and he has a year to be even more productive as a grad transfer at a little lower level school.

Jones & Amar leaving has been out there for several weeks. It is one of those "mutual things" based on anticipated PT available. Now let's see if staff improves the roster filling these slots. It is just the world of college basketball. We'll see what Matt's transfer hunt yields shortly. Then we can better evaluate the exchange.

I wish CJ the best in his future endeavors.

With respect to what we would yield as a result of his departure I have to say last night made me appreciate the "long game" a lot more. Rather than maybe taking a C+ player available on the transfer market immediately this offseason, I'd rather try to reel in an extra B+ or A- player in 2017/ 2018.

Very good point, although one of his targets will sit out & have three years eligibility left.

I agree that if we can't get something really solid, I'd rather see us bank 1-2 of the 3 open spots for more long term talent options in '17

Easier said than done as the staff has to play with the cards available.

Brandon Tierney perspective;

These transfers are a great indicator that the talent base is increasing exponentially...minutes will be tough. That's good. #SJUBB

Not happy about this. Jones improved quite a bit. If it means we pick up a better player then great, but that'd be tough to do this late in the year.

Hope to be wrong and best of luck to Jones.

CJ wouldn't affect 17 recruiting. He would be gone by than. That's why I feel there is little risk in keeping him and potential upside. But, the coaching staff knows more than me. I'm thinking the staff has an eye on a grad transfer, who they think will help more than CJ.

Very good point. Similar to a grad transfer coming in, they'd be gone after next season. But overall I am not opposed to stashing a scholarship here and there for the right guys down the road if we are in a very good position with them.

As a Long Islander, I would love to see him end up at Stony Brook
I think that would be a great fit for him - he would do very well there

Kick ass CJ! Our loss will be someone else's gain.
In remembrance..
