Goff Resigns

@NYPost_Brazille
St. John's is in the market for a new AD. Anton Goff has resigned, citing "family reason," #sjubb. Was here two years.

QUEENS, N.Y. (June 22, 2018) – St. John’s Director of Athletics Anton Goff announced his resignation on Friday from his position at the University, effective immediately. Goff had held the post since late 2016.

“Due to family reasons it is in my best interest to move on from St. John’s at this time,” said Goff. “I am thankful for the opportunities afforded to me at the University and will treasure all of the relationships I built with our student-athletes, coaches and administrators during my tenure.”

“On behalf of the University, I would like to thank Anton for his enthusiasm and passion for St. John’s Athletics,” said Joseph Oliva, Esq., Vice President for Administration, Secretary and General Counsel. “We wish him well in his future as he begins this next phase of his professional life.”

Oliva has a List and is checking it twice...?

Sorry to see it end like this. I introduced myself to him last year, and on the few occasions when our paths crossed, he always went out of his way to say hi to me. Came across as a very nice guy who had a passion for the program. Sincerely wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Passion for the program can lead to the undoing of anyone in the AD position at St. John's IMO. That said don't doubt that there was more to it that that as others have alluded too.

Delusion ain't just a river in Egypt

I agree, I wish we knew more.

Per Chris Barca

“Associate VP for Athletics Kathleen Meehan will take over as interim AD while a national search for Goff’s replacement is conducted.”

The thought of St. John's doing another national search for anything makes me nervous.

I hate to say it but likely better to just hire from within. And I'm not talking about Oliva. SJU is a quirky place. And bringing in an outsider to me could be a recipe for disaster.

You mean other than that he was hired to be the Athletic Director only to realize that at St. John's each athletic department does its own thing and that the basketball program only wanted him to sit on the sidelines and keep his mouth shut?
We are St. John's! We are career killers!

Time table for hiring new AD over under what 18 months?

Disappointed. I thought we had the right guy.

Agree, Knught.
Wish we could run a 'smoother' operation.
As it is, we often look like the 'Beverly Hillbillies' for those old enough to remember that show.

This is typical in what 's been happening the last 20 years. I could remember when I was in school Mr. Walter Mac walked the halls and was Director for years until he retired. Replaced by Mr. Jack Kaiser and was Director until retirement. I am continue to be disappointed

Yes disappointing. Where is that precious commodity called continuity?
Well here is an opportunity - we shall see - at least we have players if not a competent AD and adequate recruiting coaches.
Hmmm.
Of course Ws will wash all of our concerns away and we may well have them 2018-19.
