Goal Tending

On the other side of the coin our guys reach too much, resulting in easy foul calls.

you are so damned right. It's horrible, especially when you throw in the new hands off rules. It's ridiculous when your bigs are picking up so many fouls far away from the basket.

The fouling cost us some much needed games. Gotta stop the stupid fouls. Especially CO and Dom.

3 days ago people said Obekpa had the look of a disgruntled player who hated the school so much that he wanted to try out for the D-League.

Today, he's questioned as to why he is smiling on the basketball court.

Seriously?

When you laugh about someone actions or at someone it has been known to piss them off

Disagree. It wasn't a sarcastic "You're an ass" smile. It was a smile like "Oh man! That was a clean block" smile.

As far as I'm concerned 30% of CO's goaltending calls are legit blocks. I think the refs call blocks that are near the top of their ascent because CO can swat down shots THAT HIGH, and they presume they are on their way down.

That block in the 2nd half on the right side of the rim (was that Sanchez who made the block) did not look on the way down or in the cylinder.

Announcers said they thought that one hit the backboard first and the ref might have thought so too.

Also, given that SJ is crushing the competition nationally in blocks per game, and it's actually a pretty staggering lead all things considered, it goes without saying they are likely to lead the league in goal tending calls as well. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics/team/_/stat/blocks

So we're good at something.

Remember the Georgetown NCAA final where Thompson had Ewing block everything the first several times down the court? Some were goaltends, but it made a statement, and an intimidating one at that.

BTW, thanks for the comment about the ball hitting the backboard first. From my seat it wasn't possible to see.

Am I mistaken or does CO smile almost laugh when it's called against him. I sure Gift has goal tended but don't recall him seeing any humor in the call
If it makes you feel better there is a rumor that Obekpa never farts. Cause to be concerned?

Primo tends to pick up silly fouls at or beyond the top of the key while he tries to body the guy he's on, particularly when he's caught in a switch on a faster guy.

I can't remember a game where he wasn't in foul trouble. It's a big issue the team needs him 25-29 mins.

In my opinion, it should have to be blatantly obvious in order for a goaltend to be called. It's just way too hard to see in real time. You have to give the guy blocking the shot the benefit of the doubt. It is called way too often, and takes away many great blocks.

Goaltending my ass

2 calls already and 1 was BS

Refs should be required to at least be able to jump as high as the net, and maybe the rim, so they can believe you can block a shot without goaltending it.

Lol. I often think that when the refs see a great block, they can't believe it's possible. Therefore, it must be a goaltend.
