@Georgetown, Mon. Jan. 9, 6:30pm, FS1/970AM

I have been patient this year but this game was really embarrassing and I have seen some really embarrassing games played by SJU. It's hard to pick who played the worst game.

Clearly Ponds.

He dogged it the entire game.

Lovett a close second.

To be fair he is sick.

If he's sick now, wait until he watches game film. He will be like Malcom Mcdowell in Clockwork Orange being forced to watch violent film footage as part of his treatment.

if true he clearly looked it. Have to give him a pass if the kid has the flu or something. If not he look like he gave up

I have to agree but there where so many that were oh so close to them

Amar 0-3 from 3 and no rebounds
Ahmed 1-7 from 3
Mussini 1-6 from the field and no assists
Darien Williams 1-5 and 2 rebounds
Owens 1-5 with two missed dunks
Freudenberg two turnovers in four minutes

I am going to go give co-mvp's to Ellison and Yawke
Combined 5-12 from the field with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks.

So some of you can appreciate this...I'm currently on a flight to Boston from Philly. While I grabbed a quick dinner I was following the SJU game on my phone. It was just in the second half when gtown was pulling away. ( I figured we lose as we have my entire kids life in DC). So I just ate my turkey wrap and was trying to move on with my life.

I look up and 90 pct of TVs in the bar had the Game on. Really ? I travel a bunch and can almost NEVER get an SJU game on a bar, much less in philly.

So I try and forget about it, get on my jet blue flight and yes, you guessed it( FX1 is on in my seat 5C when I sit down. Really???? God has some sense of humor and I deserve it with all the silly stuff I do on an every day basis.

Oh well, thought some of you would appeciate it and on to Nova. Hope we can pull of 5 or 6 wins this year. We shall see

27% shooting, 16% from three & 17 turnovers. Giving up 83 to sub par GT team about covers the defense.

18 second half points.

All in an empty arena. Disgraceful performance, "young team" or not.
I think I can count now on 3 hands the amount of embarrassing games the last 2 years

did you eat the terra chips or the pop corners on the flight ? :)

With tonight's game being a 7 point spread it is worth noting that since JT III has become the coach of Georgetown in 2004-2005 we have never covered a 7 point spread against Georgetown in DC. We have lost 11 straight games to JT III coached Georgetown teams on the road. We have lost those 11 games by an average of more than 16 points per game and have never been closer than 7.

Tonight's 28 point loss was the largest margin of defeat during that streak of mostly blowout losses. It also might have been the worst performance of the bunch. It was a poor performance all game and a total mailing it in during an ugly second half, when we could only manage to score 18 total points.

Personally I would rather that Mullin gave playing time to some of the walk-ons for the last five minutes of this game. Maybe they would have appreciated their time on the court a little more and played with some fire.

We play Georgetown again February 25th. Personally I think that before that game happens, the coaches should make the players watch the tape of this debacle multiple times and drum it in to them that this kind of performance and effort is totally unacceptable.

The season is more than half way over and this is what you get? It seemed like these guys never met each other before tonight. Lovett and Ponds were locked in a Texas Death Match to decide who could freeze out his teammates more and take ill advised jumpers or drive into traffic. Yakwe actually fumbled the ball while trying to catch it after a made basket. I never saw that before. Derrickson the only guy on Georgetown who could it a three, so JTIII calls timeout with 30 seconds left in the first half, and no one bothers to guard Derrickson so he hits a 3. Yakwe fails to box out so GT rebounds a missed free throw and then scores. If SJU basketball was a public company, I would short it.

The best comment made by Tim Brando in the first half - after Mussini entered the game followed by Alibegovic he announces,"Another sharpshooter enters the game for the Johnnies." Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,, ha, ha, ha.

Not very revealing or accountable

St. John's Head Coach Chris Mullin...

On Georgetown holding St. John's to 27 percent shooting:

"I have to give their defense credit. I thought we had some decent looks and missed some dunks in the first half, but I felt pretty good being down seven [at half] the way we were playing. In the second half our energy and effort on both sides wasn't there. We had some decent outings where offensively we were good and the defense struggled, but tonight it was both; especially in the second half."

On playing without a scorer in the post:

"There is always different ways to approach that. We don't mind dropping the ball down to the post to collapse the defense. Tonight, Kassoum [Yakwe] was pretty active. The big thing too is to get some stops and get out on the open floor. That's where we've really struggled, generating fast break points. When you shoot 27 percent, you're not going to win any games."

On going against the zone:

"If you don't make shots you're going to have trouble against anything. We've actually been pretty good against the zone. It's the defense we do well against; we shoot the ball pretty well. It was a total collapse tonight."

On the rivalry:

"It has a rich history with a lot of respect. It's a great rivalry and hopefully we can both get back on track at the same time. That will be good."

Lets think of something positive we can say about this game Go
I enjoyed watching the bulldog on the scateboard :)

Another terrible game to watch - turnovers and fouls and the usual abominable defense. I did like Yakwe's performance, being much more assertive in his drives to the basket and fighting underneath. It's been a while since we could say some positive things about this young man. Owens continues his hustle and block shots.

Again no stops - open path to the basket as we give our usual matador wave.

The emotional fan in me wants to see more emotion from CM. I realize he sees this as a "process" but I don't see the trajectory (including the addition of Simon and Clark) being acceptable. Those guys will help but we will still be small and, unless there is significant improvement by the incumbents, we will be middling at best.

Just wanted to note that Fred is 3 of 13 from 3 in BE play.

Didn't realize GT had two NBA players kids on their roster....

George Muresan and Trey Mourning.

Very frustrating game to watch. This may be the worst Georgetown team I can remember and we're getting blown out. I know we're lacking talent in most positions but this game is extremely winnable even for this roster.

I'm a Mullin guy and a believer that the coaching staff needs a few seasons before they can be judged, but right now we're looking very poorly coached. Disappointing.

Oh, the excuses stops next year. Want to say "oh but they're the 2nd youngest team this year."? Ok find.

But the excuses end next year

The road is going to be tough all year in conference. Hoping we can navigate trips to Nova, Creighton, Butler, and Seton Hall (as well as the Garden this Saturday) without the type of embarrassment seen last night, as those all seem like terrible matchups on paper. Given the up and down nature of this team that may be wishful thinking.

Seems like we're more likely to get a few more PSU and last night hopefully mixed with a couple of Cuse and Butler. On balance would be happy avoiding/minimizing embarrassing efforts, beating DePaul at home, finding 2-3 more wins (one from Providence, one from Marquette, and maybe surprising in one other game?), and being very competitive in first BET game. Hopefully that's not wishful thinking as well.

We played a bad game against a bad team. That was a chance to steal a win, and we blew it.

One obvious takeaway is that we need at least two out of three among Ponds, Lovett and Ahmed to score or we don't have enough offense to beat anyone. Ponds was not himself last night and Ahmed was invisible (maybe an overreaction to trying to do too much). And that was that.

From a coaching standpoint there were too many occasions against the zone where we threw the ball around up high. I'm sure the staff told the players they had to get it to the free throw line or below and kick it from there, but the execution certainly wasn't there.

The thing that really mystified me was that every single time GT threw the ball into the post our defender positioned himself on the free-throw-line shoulder instead of on the baseline shoulder. Basically we gave up the baseline move to the hoop every time, instead of trying to force the ball into the lane. Maybe the plan was to have help come along the baseline but if so that didn't happen much, and when it did it was a 6 foot guard against a GT big, which wasn't even a speed bump. I'd love to know what the coaching idea behind that was.

Bottom line is it was a stinker on the road and we squandered a winnable game. Hopefully we can rebound at home against Nova. I'd expect a big effort for that one.

Agree with fair expectation of winning two or three more games, but to me avoiding embarrassing beatings in too many remaining games is more important. The optics are terrible, they tend to discourage the kids & can't help on recruiting front. I guess "Trust the Process" is only option, although difficult to embrace at times. Oh well.
