Just curious, how are your friends/co-workers treating you folks given this horrific season we are having? Most of the people in my life went to Nova, Duke, Marquette, SYR, Gtown and the Hall. They really feel sorry for me, love Mullin, think our future is bright and give me virtually no crap at all this year for possibly going 0-18. It's kind of odd as they appear to be waking on egg shells when we discuss college hoops and I think they feel sorry for me knowing what a big SJU fan I am. Are you guys getting similar treatment ?

sounds similar to the egg shell treatment that Mullin gets from the other BE coaches...they know its a tough situation...its not like he had even a portion of the live recruiting season to attract players...he had to go for leftovers and was fortunate to land a few that have some potential...and top notch grad senioris are going to go gravitate to situations that have PT and potential to advance to NCAA.

Showing no empathy at all! But its my fault for rooting so hard

I get the same. During the Roberts years, it was "norm inherited a tough situation but he isn't he guy who is going to get you back to being good". With Lavin it was "he can recruit but just something about him we don't like and I hope this blows up in his face". With Mullin and our staff it is all respect and that's even as we've started to get really good players on he recruiting front. It's almost as if as much as they might dislike St John's they like Mullin and think a Mullin led St John's will be good for the league. Some question whether Mullin can coach - jury out on that - but they have resided themselves to the fact that we are going to get players. Almost like they don't want to live in a universe where Mullin at SJU doesn't work.

14 1/2 point dogs.

That sounds low. Based on our game against them in MSG and Saturday's performance I was thinking in the 20-24 range.

We are probably still getting respect for playing Xavier so close on the road.

However, our 3 "repeat" games so far, have all had similar final scores to the first game (even though the two Marquette games took totally opposite routes to get to those results), so yeah, I was expecting around a 20-point line.

One thing I've learned over the year, though: These guys who set the lines, generally know what they are doing.

In conference no need to inflame your opponents for the future by running up the score. Butler was on track to score more than 100 with just under 11 minutes to play (77 points). They called off the dogs, and settled for 89 points. The only real danger is letting an inferior opponent into striking range late into the second half. Last time Gtown ran away early and then kept it a comfortable game. Beating SJU by 35-40 points serves no real purpose except for future payback.
