GAME WITH DEPAUL POSTPONED

Could be a false positive. I've known 2 people to take the PCR tests and feel no symptoms, be around family that went on to test negative. Then later on take the test for antibodies, and found out they didn't have any. Let's wait for follow up tests and the administration will make the right call then.

Shocking that if you let all the players/staff go home across the country during break that there would be an issue. Probably should have kept a tight bubble and try to finish season.

There was no guarantee keeping a tight bubble would have made a difference.  Not surprised but felt the odds were that we would have to shutdown at some point.

Plus, the women's program had to shut down last week, and I believe they stuck around in their virtual bubble (though redmennorth would know for sure).  If that's the case, it was probably a matter of time if they stuck around, as well.

i know that the women were not in a bubble around Christmas time and were allowed to be with their families. I know that two members of the coaching staff  have tested positive for COVID 19.

Hope whoever has been infected is OK and the spread is contained.

I also question the decision to send the players home. Many of us did not spend the holidays with family unfortunately.

Unfortunately tons of false positives with the rapid test because it's only supposed to be used in symptomatic people.  If you're not symptomatic it's not indicated nor accurate.

Can not put the onus on the players as medical protocol requires confidentiality.  Folks assuming that the infected person was a player but the person infected could have been one of the coaches or managers.  There are more "non-players" associated with the team than the young men who wear the uniforms.  The fact that this has happened at this juncture is a combination of luck and preventive procedures.  Remember DePaul has played only 3 games commencing December 23rd while we have played 10 games already.

We all miss the continuity of play and get frustrated with loss of such, but with Covid there are no easy answers. From peanut gallery,  we all have opinions on kids going home, pause periods, bubbles, etc, but let's face it, everyone is learning on the fly. All we can ask is that the powers to be make intelligent, well thought out decisions reflective of the health and safety of staff and players. If they err, let's appreciate this "ain't easy"

First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to the players and staff.  In these scary times, we are all reminded that there are more important things than basketball.

I imagine we won't be playing games for at least a week or two.

On a far less important note, if we continue to struggle on the court after we resume play, I truly hope my fellow posters won't  blame it on the pandemic or rust.

I agree with your first part completely . Just to clarify are you saying you wont criticize down the road if we have a pandemic pause and then struggle ?

The league probably should have completely divided for the season. Western teams play each other four times and the eastern teams do the same to cut down on travel. Western teams make up the difference with some geographically close OOC games.

I was saying that we shouldn't use the layoff as an excuse if we continue to poorly.  I don't think the staff should be given a pass on this year.

But in retrospect, I regret the post.  Plenty of time to harp on our performance.  The focus today should be on the health of the players and staff.

Trust me, I totally get it. I am very thankful the team to this point has been in good health and has played it safe. I'm thankful for the games that have been played thus far, even if we don't get another game the whole season. However, I just found it a bit hypocritical that the school would send these kids home to spend the holidays gathering with family, when Cuomo and NY Health experts were advising the exact opposite.

This season is putting all the leagues coaching staff under incredible pressure. Coach Anderson had to scout DePaul and spend valuable practice time getting the team ready to play. Depaul has the same frustration.

I guess they'll shelve the game plan until the game can be played. A lot of the prep work is done.

The players and staff physical and mental well being are the only things that truely matter.  Everything else is gravy at this point.  Every game is a gift this winter.  Hopefully, we will start to get back to normal by late spring or summer.

It's inevitable during the holidays for even precuation compliant athletes be exposed to greater risks when celebrating with intimate family members in small groups.   Even in your nuclear family just 1 person who has been exposed to large numbers of people either at work, on mass transit, or socially increases the risk of of transmission.

It was highly unlikely that we got through an entire season unscathed, with the holidays being the riskiest periods.

I'm close enough to the situation to know that collectively our student athletes have done a phenomenal job at keeping themselves healthy.    In a pandemic the chain is only as strong as the weakest link applies, and even a single event of dropping your guard can be deadly.

This season is of course unusual, the results adulterated already by Covid, but our athletes have given us a distraction from world events when they do play.   I'm very grateful and thankful for that.

Just found out that it was a false inconclusive positive test that caused the DePaul game to be canceled. Administration and league chose to use caution rather than jeopardize the health of any players.

This just goes to show how many variables there are in dealing with this disease.
