Ga. Tech game

the way we're playing once the BE season starts we're not going to be the favorites in too many games.

Stating obvious, must, must win v. GT. It is likely we lose to Cuse & don't consider Fordham a lock. Essentially in a very competitive BE, based on current play, how likely is it we do better than going .500? That outcome, in concert with terrible out of conference production, equates to NIT at best. Boy, we have put our backs to the wall. Hope we can surprise in BE play, but can't garner confidence about that. Maybe not "Doomed", but loss today equates to a poor prognosis. Very disheartening to all who really care about Johnnies.

Lastly, erratic, poor play & disappointment certainly can prove harmful to your "recruiting health". With 2015 being a critical recruiting year, that concerns me. Sorry, just a bit down.

Nothing to be sorry about! I am just as sorry getting to the point thinking coach was a much better commentator than coach, probably just the disappointment talking Will feel better with a win over GT A loss could be the beginning of the end this season

Cheer up it could have been much much worse!
We, for all intents, should have lost the exhibition game to a D2 team and barley beat a couple of low D1 teams, all at home. Last night was just another example of eclectic offense and no-show defense against a team whose entire offense was guard-driven. Neither Greene or Harrison have the lateral quickness to stay with other guards and that is where I was hoping Jordan was going to make a difference. Having both in the game is, and has been, counter-productive going into their 3rd season. Opposing coaches have been salivating seeing that combo and just have their defense sit back.

I know a couple of coaches who, though not recruiting the same players, agree with you about what they would be saying to recruits and that is that the SJU staff will not develop you. Harkless was a fluke recruit with God given natural talent who was never even coached by Lavin. No other players have shown any growth and playing time is erratic at best. I firmly believe that most of what we have been seeing is the result of poorly structured practices and game preparation. Others with far better credentials than I agree. Teams with much less talent come into games better prepared.
As for your recruiting worries, they are very valid and I share your concerns. With 2014 a bust and 2015 a big ?, the 5th and 6th years of the wizards world are shaping up very similar to those of Jarvis and Roberts.

In the part of Turkey that I'm in right now the only english tv station is Al Jazeera and if we pull another game like last night that tv option might not be so bad

Is game on TV or same as yesterday?

Both games (consolation and championship) are on the NBC Sports Network
I believe that the St John's - Georgia Tech game starts at 2 PM and championship game at 4:30 PM

Let's just win this game, and we will be sitting at 5-2 moving forward. Lavin really needed to schedule more OOC power conference opponents.

Please, Jarvis and Roberts never came close is assembling any type of recruiting class. Not a publication in the world acknowledged as much.

On the bright side a win today and an all out assault on Syracuse will right the ship. All fans have to feel this way.
Every player on St. John's knows they should have won last night and they all probably have numerous plays
rolling over in their minds that they could have done better, that would have changed the outcome.
Now is the time to use that energy to win big today with no time to dwell on it.

It seems like many of you forget how our OOC went in the 2010 season, and you guys think we were a good team then because by the end of the year we were ranked. So let me remind you losses to Fordham and St. Bonaventure. Ironically, we only beat Wagner that year by 8, and beat Ball State University in Overtime. What I'm trying to say is you do not have to look very good in the beginning of the season, you can turn it around. Let's turn it around today against G TECH, I believe in this team.

The issue with comparing that year is this team has higher ranked talent. When you have high ranked talent you expect better results, quicker results, etc.

My post was not so much a comparison but more of an example saying if we have a bad start to the year doesn't mean this season is over and we cant turn things around.

The fanbase really needs to put 2010 behind them.

It happened and it's over with. The revisionist history helps no one.

I guarantee you if we lose to GT, Lavin brings it up as well.

I have one.... The '97-'98 Johnnies. That team had lots of highly, ranked HS kids on the team.

Zendon Hamilton - Sr.
Felipe Lopez - Sr.
Tarik Turner - Sr.
Lavor Postell - So.
Ron Artest - Fr.
Reggie Jessie - Fr.
Shannon Crooks - Fr.
James Felton (he was dismissed in the early part of the season) - Fr.
Colin Charles (I believe he was a top 100 recruit, if I'm not mistaken.... But I could be wrong) - So.

I recall that team looking fairly, poorly early on. They did have a good win out in Puerto Rico (consolation game) against Illinois. But I also recall them looking rather 'blah,' or flat out bad in games versus Syracuse, West Virginia, Niagara, Seton Hall, DePaul, and Louisville during the early part of the season.

Something clicked shortly after Christmas, and they went on a roll. I know that particular team is irrelevant to this team, but I was just making an example of having a roster of high school hot shots on both respective rosters and playing poorly during the onset of the season.
