Fuck Duke

First, let me say that I am appalled by the title of this thread! To all the young members of the site under 40 I apologize for Mike Maher Jr. I also appeal to the mods not to demote him to the Rookie Forum for this slight transgression of the forum rules. We are a classy and forgiving bunch and hope his reaction should we beat Villanova will not be as vulgar.
Speaking of Villanova, I hate their Fuckin guts just as much as those Georgetown whores! :p :D ;)

Yeah! This is a family friendly forum! Stop dropping D-bombs all over the place!

What recruits were at the game for us? This goes to show you if we play like this in the BET we could possibly win it. Wouldn't it be great if this carried over and we beat Nova

Beast , eloquent post . You and a few others here are keepers of the Faith , that is St John’s basketball .. Shamorie Ponds is a Lion , a favorite son of NY that performed in the Cathedral that is Madison Sq Garden . Much like that other favorite son of Brooklyn , Chris Mullin did some years ago .,Ponds has already earned his place in the Archives of St John’s regardless with what happens going forward . He took the game on his shoulders as Chris did so many times in his career. . A career that perhaps not all who post here , saw . We did . Shamorie has that intangible , beyond his incredible B.B. skills to be among the Great Ones , who wear the Red and White . He is as exciting a player as we have had in a decade or more . He was a Maestro yesterday and in the Mecca of B.B. plus a National TV Audience . The All American Dookies had no answer for the game he played . Ever onward , Redmen

Thanks, man. This is my 39th season as a season ticket holder. I think ALL of our long time fans are loyal to this program. I also am loyal to those trusted with the program. It isn't blind loyalty. I didn't think Steve was a bad guy or a bad coach, but he isn't my kind of guy and i was ambivalent about his departure. I thought NR was way over his head, and his best success was snowing Harrington with a proclamation that this was his dream job.

Chris is different. If you met him for 10 minutes you'd know he is the real deal as a person. He knows basketball and will chat with anyone about our team. No pretenses. He was raised like that. I've told him he is the right man for this job, and at the right time, and to keep his chin up.

Not many believed that good times were right around the corner, but yesterday we got a glimpse.

We will lose again, and disappoint again, but I believe there will be many more days like this in the near future. Trust me, it's coming.

Watching the first half of the game Sat I had the thought that the Duke defense against the basic pick and rolls SJU were running was horrific. It looked like the acclaimed coach K had never touched on it. Then I realized four of Duke's players on the court were freshman and sometimes fans, especially posters expect too much perfection out of both players and coaches because we want the team to win so badly.

"When an 0-11 Big East team beats the preseason title favorite, you have to at least be open to the idea that the new Big East is as good as the old Big East." - Ken Pomeroy

Woke up Sat. morning with severe back pains and was unable to get to the garden for the game which broke my heart since I was in the house for so many of ther previous SJU - Duke games . There is always incredible electricity in the building for these games and I truly missed being there . That said , I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game at home as we outplayed them . our guys rose to the occasion . Is their center a lottery pick ?? where was Allen ? great games for shamoorie ,owens and Ahmed . Mullin has them in great shape to play the minutes they play.

Guy I work with went to Duke. I came in this morning with my ST John's hat ready to gloat. Guy just laughed and said he didn't realize how good Ponds was and didn't understand how we lost all those games. Stupid Duke fan even took away all the fun in busting his chops. My luck I know the one decent Duke fan.

This Duke team is young with two freshmen that will be first round picks. They play 4 freshmen but will lose 2 to the draft so relying on these 5 star guys means having to reload every year. Our guys played a more mature game and it showed. It is truly sad that losing one guy has this adverse effect but I am sure that will never happen again. With the return of Ponds, Simon, Clark and Owens we will have a veteran team next year. The new additions should blend in nicely.

I have many friends that are PUKE fans but IMO the biggest issue i have with PUKE fans is that the majority of them that I come across in the garden are not humble in defeat. Syracuse fans are the same way. I blame part of this on the media and Fake News :D . PUKE is consistently over hyped and favored and yesterday they got exposed and so did the ACC for being a weak conference.

No matter how you dice it the Big East conference is just stacked with talent and a unforgiving schedule. Our record sucks and our program needs change but I respect this squad for not giving up and still playing hard. Mentally as an athlete it is easy to lose faith when on a long losing streak. Kids could have easily came into yesterday's game with the mentality of not losing more than X number of points but instead showed up to win.
Very bougie road fan base. Come across as though they are there because “its a thing”

A few weeks ago I fractured my ankle. One of those foot points east and leg points north injuries. So two weeks ago I had surgery to fix. Needless to say I can't walk yet. No Duke game at MSG for me. Honestly, with the way things are going I wasn't too optimistic going into this one. However, it is the Johnnies so there we were watching the game on TV. As the game moved along I couldn't believe what was happening. My son and I became glued with every possession. As the game ended I almost jumped up off the sofa completely forgetting my injury and praying that those 3 screws and plate would hold together. We let out a scream that could best be described as tribal. This is what its all about. This is where we should have been all along.
Thanks to Shamorie Ponds who played an amazing game. Also, Tariq Owens. Kid made some mistakes but he worked his ass off.
Tariq carried us at the beginning and certainly shouldered a lot of the load at the end
Tariq is all in, all the time. Hard worker and smart player who has developed and learned how to stay on the floor.

+1000 kid has heart of a lion and nerves of steel. Need to use him as an example of what it feel like for a local kid to take over MSG
