from 0-5 to today we have come a long way ..

Coach Lavin with another 20 win season. That's 2 out of three years coaching St. John's.
Let's be realistic. The year he only coached 4 games and Dunlap coached the rest even john Wooden would not have won 20 with (5 frosh and 6 schoolie players total) so it is 2 out of 4 years.

I think the real barometer, if we consider ourselves a strong program, should be ncaa's. 20 wins isn't what it used to be

Well, of course not - teams play more games now, no?

Of course making the NCAA tournament is the proper barometer for this program. That being said we should not ignore our progress, because this season we have definitely progressed.

Consider this fact, since Joe Lapchick retired in 1965 until Louie retired in 1992 we had 27 seasons in a row where we won at least 17 games. During those years we averaged playing a little more than 29 games per season.

In the 22 seasons since Louie retired we have won 17 or more games only nine times and in thirteen of those 22 seasons we have failed to win at least 17 games. In these 22 seasons we have averaged playing slightly more than 31 games a year.

So despite averaging two more games a year we have failed to do something (win seventeen games) about sixty percent of the time, that was a given for the previous quarter of a century plus.

With twenty victories and counting this will be one of best years in the post Louie era. If we can manage to win two more games we will have won the most games since the 1999/2000 Big East Tournament Championship team that went 25-8.

Now people can argue coherently that we have not improved enough for their expectations and it is understandable that many fans are impatient through the long stretch of years where we have underperformed. That being said I believe there is no doubt that the number of wins we have achieved this season represents progress. The key will be to continue to build on this progress so that we are a consistent winning program.

give credit to the young men. we were 0-5 and we have come along way... now on to the BE tournament .. we can win it in the garden but we have to give the young men their props we have rebounded well.. good job guys

Yeah the kids have come along way, but no ncaa then the year is still a bust.

Huge win today. Not say getting two wins in 2 night will be a cake walk, but it`s a hell alot easier then having to get 3 wins in 3 consecutive night.

Two more wins guys, don`t let anyone deny you of your dreams.

First off, I am a Coach Lavin supporter.

That being said, yes, coming back from 0-5 is fantastic and we should be proud of these boys.

But, not making the NCAAs makes the season a huge disappointment and a big step back in progress IMO.

NCAA bid and the I-hate-Lavin "fans" really can't say much. They still will chirp if we are a one and done in the dance, but they will not have much ground to stand on IMO.

No bid, and their chirping will be fact based and not really arguable even from a "homer" like myself.

Two NITs in consecutive seasons is NOT success and good progress to me. Does that warrant firing Coach? I don't think so, but it will be hard to not admit that we have taken a step back on the road to recovery.

Very reasonable view IMO. Not a big fan of Coach Lavin, but appreciate he kept the team together after horrible initial part of BE season. Additionally, winning four games on the road in League play is not bad. Yesterday, despite blowing the six point lead, showed me something & gives me a little hope we dance. If we wind up in NIT, so be it. Hopefully we keep everyone and dance next year.

I'm hereby calling for a week of positivity amongst redmen, com posters.

20 wins is a benchmark. We should be proud of it seeing all that we've gone through in the past 3 years from all of the ineligible players, to mid season transfers and suspensions, to Coach's battle with cancer and players losing family members and friends tragically.

Let's put all of the venom aside because it's tourney time.

Our focus should be one focus and that's winning from here on out.

Last year this time there was no reason for optimism.

Let's just all get on the same page and stop the back and forth bickering with each other and unify and go out and support this coach and this team. They need it.

Act like you've been there before.
