Francesa

Lavin on with Francessa tomorrow at 5:25PM

Wonder if he'll interrupt Lavin as much as he interrupted Jay Wright today. Jeesh, every time Mike asked a question, while Wright was answering, Mike would interrupt and talk over Wright. Francesa is absolutely the worst interviewer! Especially to those he sucks up to, like Calhoun, Cal and so many others.

He had Rothstein on today and didn't let him finish a thought.

Yes, he has a terrible habit of interrupting his guests. It's quite frustrating to listen to.......I can only imagine how it is for the guest.

what about when he gets angry at a caller before the caller has even started to talk and he starts grunting on he air.

It's sounds like the mating call of the Wildabeast in africa

Part of it is just plain rudeness. Some of it is disinterest in what the guest has to say. Another part of it is insecurity, because he really doesn't know that much, he directs the conversation rather than engage in meaningful dialogue that he is incapable of.

I am a big listener to his program. Overall, he pulls for St. John's to do well, and will discuss them whenever they have a good W. Has said on multiple occasions that he thinks St. John's being good is one of the two or three most important things for the Big East. And when fans of other schools call to discuss their program - whether it be Seton Hall, Rutgers, or even his buddy Cluess' - he goes out of his way to reiterate that St. John's is and will always be the NYC program that draws the most attention.

About a year ago, Mike mentioned that during a time in which St. John's was looking for a coach. he spoke to Majerus about taking over the job, and that Slice would be the lead assistant/recruiter. He said that the three were discussing it while watching the tourney one year, and that he thinks it would have happened but for North Carolina showing interest. Apparently Majerus backed off after that.

I wanted Coach Majerus on our sideline as HC. He would have been perfect for us and NY in so many ways. Too bad it was never really explored seriously by the powers that be and we will never know what could have been. Unfortunately we know how it would have ended.

At one time, Mike knew college hoops as well as anyone. Now he talks at length about teams he has likely seen very little of (not just SJU).

He is truly ego-maniacal.

He's fat, lazy, and mailing it in.
And a horror to work for apparently

Was out most of the day....was Lavin interviewed by Mike?

Yes. Here is the transcript:

Steve Lavin:
"Bla, bla, bla, unicorn, costco, bla, bla bla, paralysis by analysis, bla, bla, bla, UCLA, rebounding is overated, bla, bla, bla, small line-up, up and down the floor, bla, bla, bla, incremental progress, all getting their degree"

Mike Francessa:
"zzzzzzz......"

Ha, ha!
Ironically I spent time at Costco today. Not sure what I will do with 20 pounds of fruit and 3 boxes of cereal.

The interview, if you want to call it that, was weird, semi-friendly, but weird.

Mike would ask a question, then answer it.

Then turn it over to Lavin, who would use it to launch into something extraneous.

Lots of repetitive phrases and silly analogies, lots of UCLA, and lots of 'for the last 15 years SJU was horrible.' Reminders of Harkless and Sampson leaving and DJ Kennedy's injury.

Mike was actually better than Lavin. I think Steve would make a good pol. We need Tim Russert to make Lavin answer the question that was asked. Jay Wright is a much better interviewee.

Mike always talks over the answers, especially when he thinks he wants to get some great tidbit in to sound smart.

"The probability or percentages of this team stepping up and being competitive and giving themselves a chance to win is likely."

Professor Irwin Corey is a much better interviewee.

He is wearing a black sweatshirt with NYC St.John's University and 718 on it.

Caller said he wanted Coach Lavin replaced. Francesa said (basically) Now?

Francesa has no clue and the caller while I appreciate him calling up failed to get into the specifics of all the kids graduating and the risks that are being recruited for next year. Of course the record this year makes anything otherwise look crazy.
Austour, if you think your karma is bad, take a look at Moose :)

You can thank a bored moderator under the old system where you could just keep clicking with no time constraints for my karma.
I am that's lawmanfan who I think has more than 10K :)

I had nothing to do with Moose's karma. I am pretty sure I know who did, though.

As for my karma, well, I am clearly doing something right.

I didn't get to hear it, but I'm guessing he mentioned "we just need to focus on the task at hand" and "we have an arduous task in front of us". Also I'm guessing he did not mention how successful his "3 year plan" since 2011 has been.

Mike stating the obvious, Manhattan stunk and Massiello did a very poor job preparing and altering losing to a Hampton team with a losing record. Lost great opportunity to face Kentucky. Also stated to some fool that SJU would never play these teams on a regular basis and their was no juice in the Pro town for it . Plain and simple.

Excellent recollection of the interview with the slight omission of "Wooden." We all know SL can't do an interview without mentioning the Wizard!

Mike's view that Manhattan should have gotten a higher seed was dead wrong and shows how little he pays attention to college hoops for most of the year. This Manhattan team had an awful RPI and was a shell of last years squad. They played in a terrible league and upset a far more talented team because Cluess' teams play no defense, a few guys on Manhattan played better than normal, and when Iona doesn't have a great shooting day they will always lose because of the lack of commitment on defense. The MAAC was awful this year and the seeding was appropriate.

Where was Zach B's tweet after last night about the best coaching staff in the Metro area, by far residing in Riverdale? I thought so as if that transparent nonsense wasn't obvious. Good young staff but they got out coached and outplayed by a team that was .500 from an equally awful league.
