Focus on the Team and Now

I joked during halftime of the Tulane blowout that I'd have to go back 2 pages on a thread to read a complaint, there was one as soon as I opened the last page. We are the worst. We have a great start, the coach seems unworried about recruits, and we haven't even entered BE play. I can't convince poor Republicans that they vote against their own interests, I'm not going to convince Lavin haters that he shouldn't get dumped. We are...

Everything will work itself out. Go get Seton Hall guys!

It's possible to simultaneously work towards two objectives; short and long term.
Human beings are complex like that.

True, but with a lot to be decided in the future you can spend time conjecturing or just enjoying the ride. For me, how things play out will be more apparent in the future. Big East conference play is an unknown, but great momentum. Hoping for the best, but to be decided.

Why is it so hard to think you can't enjoy the ride and wonder about the future?

Moose, highly respect you guys. Didn't say you couldn't. I said I just prefer to enjoy now and think everything will become more apparent in the future.

Trust me I am very much enjoying this season. I don't enjoy that we have sucked for pretty much 15 years. But I want to be consistently good. So I worry that this isn't an every 4 year party we throw until we go back into a hole. And you know how much I enjoy recruiting. How many games I watch myself. I want to know what we have coming around the corner.

Throw out Lavin's NR year, in which he had a roster full of seniors and re-shuffled the deck and put people in different roles, and rode the success. Year 2 was ground zero, starting will 11 roster spots to fill. If you look at it that way, we've gotten better each season. No reason to think that next season we are back to where we were then. He has a lot of work cut out for himself to get some talent here, but this years success, if it continues, will help that.

Every year 80% or more of the Sr class verbals and signs in the early signing period. That leaves 20%. Usually that 20% is top 10-20 players. One of those happens to be a guy we are after in Diallo but thats it.

Then you start recruiting Keith Thomas' and ADR's and other players with issues. Most who are available in the spring period are available for a reason.

Maybe I'd feel more comfortable is players like Christian, Felix and others who are presumed to be back have played more this year or years prior. But they haven't. So in my mind we are dealing with pretty much all unknowns.

Maybe I missed a post or two, but who said Lavin should get dumped?

How can a fan simply focus on the now by turning deaf ears to a coach who gets asked about his future at the school in most interviews, a junior Center who is inching up mock draft boards and a talented Soph who spent the entire Summer tweeting about how he's entering the draft?

We all want to enjoy the moment. And if we keep winning, we certainly will block out the noise to celebrate our team.

But the elephant in the room is too large to ignore.

My point is that it is too early to do analysis paralysis. Lots of unknowns still. I don't disagree with much of what is said. Agree we are 11-1. The Big East is the real test. We could continue upwards or collapse. I hope upwards. More recruits can fall off the board or a few surprises might occur. We can keep talking about what should happen but most and many have said let the season play out. Too many unknowns. I am enjoying this season and there is no denying that a lot of work needs to occur for next year still. Current state is not looking too great. Who knows who stays or who comes. I surely don't and maybe a handful of people have more insight so are able to be more critical. Like many have said, it's tough to be a St. John's fan. Years like this are few. Because of that I am going to savor it.

Would like to end that I have chosen to be more positive for the sake of the current team. They have been a happy surprise and are extremely enjoyable to watch.

Next year has tons of question marks, but I think a more solid opinion will be formed over the coming month as Big East play starts. This is pretty obvious to most. That's all I'm saying. Not digging a hole and putting my head in it.

Exactly!

There is a difference between "dumping" Lavin and being wary of giving him an extension at this point. As I said the 11-1 (really 10-1 since FP doesn't count) start is great but the overall body of work, in particular the 2014. & 2015 incoming classes are not what I want the coach of St. John's bringing in and we should all expect better - much better.

Let him prove he d serves the extension with recruiting and since he "specializes and excels" (his words) at that he shouldn't have a problem getting that extension then BUT until then let's stop overreacting.
