Focus on the Team and Now

Everything will work itself out. Go get Seton Hall guys!

It's possible to simultaneously work towards two objectives; short and long term.
Human beings are complex like that.

If you can't enjoy the present, then what sense does it make to worry about the future?

True, but with a lot to be decided in the future you can spend time conjecturing or just enjoying the ride. For me, how things play out will be more apparent in the future. Big East conference play is an unknown, but great momentum. Hoping for the best, but to be decided.

Why is it so hard to think you can't enjoy the ride and wonder about the future?

Moose, highly respect you guys. Didn't say you couldn't. I said I just prefer to enjoy now and think everything will become more apparent in the future.

Trust me I am very much enjoying this season. I don't enjoy that we have sucked for pretty much 15 years. But I want to be consistently good. So I worry that this isn't an every 4 year party we throw until we go back into a hole. And you know how much I enjoy recruiting. How many games I watch myself. I want to know what we have coming around the corner.

If I think about the future, I won't enjoy the present. That's just the way I'm wired. So I'm trying damn hard to just block it out. But this contract extension talk at this point, mostly by Johnny come lately posters(relatives?), is just ridiculous IMO.

Lavin's contract/ the 2015 class has enormous implications for the future of the program so it should absolutely be discussed.

This isn't some made up rumor from Twitter with no credibility to it about one of our players transferring. This is reality and should absolutely be on the table for discussion.

I am often told to live in the moment and I am really enjoying this years team and hope it continues. I actually enjoyed a lot of last season as well. But I am a worrier by nature and when I see Amar, Myles, Balamou, Jones and Lioscomb play as we clear the bench, I get nervous about next year. I realize Daughty is on the way as well as is Henderson and possibly ADR.

Some people see what is and ask why, I dream what can be and ask why not.

Robert F Kennedy campaign mantra in 1968 but actually a quote of GB Shaw.

I look my sports teams like I do managing money. Yeah the stock market did well this year but I'm always concerned about the next year.

Damn I wish I wasnt a glass half empty person :)

doesn't work with Nathalie and her shopping for pocketbooks and coats and shoes :)

How can a fan simply focus on the now by turning deaf ears to a coach who gets asked about his future at the school in most interviews, a junior Center who is inching up mock draft boards and a talented Soph who spent the entire Summer tweeting about how he's entering the draft?

We all want to enjoy the moment. And if we keep winning, we certainly will block out the noise to celebrate our team.

But the elephant in the room is too large to ignore.

Throw out Lavin's NR year, in which he had a roster full of seniors and re-shuffled the deck and put people in different roles, and rode the success. Year 2 was ground zero, starting will 11 roster spots to fill. If you look at it that way, we've gotten better each season. No reason to think that next season we are back to where we were then. He has a lot of work cut out for himself to get some talent here, but this years success, if it continues, will help that.

and to be completely fair if we won a national championship we'd have a thread started after the game worrying about Chris O going pro and probably at least 1 rumor of a player transferring ( even though that player might actually be graduating )

Such is the life of us St Johns fans. We secretly love agony and yet hate it too
