Because of Covid, I will be making my first trip in a year to the Naples, FL area next week. Anyone in the area that would like to get together for a drink or lunch, let me know.
Beast, do you winter there? I'm looking to make the move to Florida soon. Naples on the west coast and Boynton Beach on the east coast are possibilities.Beast of the East" post=419464 said:Because of Covid, I will be making my first trip in a year to the Naples, FL area next week. We vacation in the area and love it. Much more quiet and less over-developed than other Atlantic Coast areas.otis" post=419501 said:Starting next January i will spend winters in Vero Beach.

If moving to FL is ever in the future when retiring, I can't imagine how complicated it could be to make a choice on coast, city, community etc.
How did you all do it? Just follow someone else you knew who liked where they were, or did you visit all over?
If I ever leave NC when I retire, and don't go back to NY, I need to find a place with good restaurants, especially Italian. They're awful here except one. Hope there are some decent ones for a few of you.
I ended up in South Florida on the East Coast (in Delray Beach) because my mother lived 5 minutes away and my younger brother was 10-15 minutes away in Boca Raton. Quite frankly, while we're in a nice area, housing is pretty expensive here and it's very congested in the winter.
You will find real estate prices to be lower on the West Coast for comparably sized houses, especially as you head north toward the Tampa area. I have friends who live in that region and found very nice housing at very reasonbly prices. The West Coast, in general, is also less densely populated.
Hope that is helpful to you.

My brother in law and his wife purchased a home in Venice a couple of years ago. We were supposed to visit last spring but, obviously, could not do so due to the the pandemic. Once again, we could not visit this spring but hope to be able to make it to the west coast next year. Should that be the case, I would love to meet you guys for lunch in 2022.

There is a lot of new construction in West Naples. Beautiful sprawling communities with big man made lakes. The only problem is it's 15 miles of traffic to the beach. Homes close to the ocean are old, and start at 1 million for a tear down.
Similar story with Boynton. Nice communities 15 miles to the ocean, but a lot of traffic to the ocean with no place to park. You may want to look around Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte. especially if you like boating. Home prices have risen steadily, but are still a lot less than Naples or Boynton. Punta Gorda has canals everywhere, but no beach. I think you have to go to Venice to see the ocean, and that's not that close. There is a plus side to being 15 miles from the Atlantic or the Gulf. or even Charlotte Harbor. You will pay half as much for homeowners insurance, and won't have to flee your home if a hurricane is on the way.
