There are a lot of strange Orthodox Jewish customs. Social dating is not allowed. Dating is basically for the sole purpose of finding a spouse and the "courtship" is very brief - days or weeks. Many couple marry in their late teens - early 20s. Wedding ceremonies and receptions are segregated by gender. The married couple is supposed to consummate the wedding at the reception in alone time before they are introduced as a married couple. Men dance with men in a big mob, women the same but it's mostly the men who jump up and down to loud fast traditional music. I've been to a few. Pretty sure for the devout the sheet thing is real.
