Felix Balamou

So last week Rysheed goes home to Philly, and Lavin suits up Balamou.
Today Rysheed played and Balamou doesn`t play one minute.

So activating Balamou had nothing to do with Rysheed going home? Yeah right
Lavin will defend the decision by saying oh Balamou didn`t have a good practice this week or something.

He played.

No biggie but Felix played 3 minutes. Whoever he was guarding had to give it up. CO with 12 and Branch with 8 more telling. I do think Felix will play a role and coach will have a good flow to the rotation. We still might see 10 guys with minutes in the box score. Sheed won't get shorted unless he fouls.

He did? i went on espn.com and checked the box score and didn`t see his name, maybe i need my eyes checked.
But my bad. Atleast he played a few minutes.

I would still like to know why this cracker jack coaching staff decided to pull Balamou's redshirt
His shorts were stuck to the bench yesterday
To me, just another bone head decision
Smh.....................

Of all of Lavin's puzzling moves, activating Balamou is the most inexplicable. The poor kid is going to burn a year of eligibility for nothing. Absent injuries or a total team meltdown (not an unlikely scenario I guess), he is not likely to see any meaningful minutes this year.

The decision is particularly puzzling in light of the fact that Lavin refused to play Gift last year despite the fact that we desperately needed him. I attributed Lavin's decision on Gift to the fact that, up until January of last year, Lavin expected Sanchez to be eligible. When January rolled around, Lavin didn't want to burn Gift's eligibility given that he had already missed the entire out of conference schedule. Apparently Lavin decided not to apply that logic to Balamou who didn't play a single minute until December 21 and has now played a whopping 38 minutes total.

We needed Gift more last year than we need Balamou this year. Another thing is ,if he didnt redshirt Gift Lavin would have had another scholi he could have used for a shooter or Big we could develop, and we would have had better scholarship distribution.

Wonder what goes on in a kid's head when he gets settled into red shirting & then is rewarded for practicing well by starting, only to be cast aside again? Not advocating giving him more time, but I do feel for him. He would have benefitted from red shirt year. Man, this is a strange regime.

For all of the posters that think Hooper is not capable of playing at this level, I am pretty sure he will leave St. John's scoring more points than Balamou. I don't get the obsession with Balamou, I see nothing positive about his offensive game, which is what we need.

If Balamou is not good enough to outplay Greene or Branch in practice and earn playing time and contribute some offense this year what does it matter if he has 2 or 3 years left?

It's clear Lavin wasn't sure about Jordan returning, that's why it happened. And since Rysheed did return, Felix is back to playing no time. Lavin should've waited until Rysheed made a final decision, but he probably wanted Felix to think he activated him because he wanted to, not because he had to.

I think there was some Machiavellian thing going on there. If this move was made because Rysheed was thinking of leaving, Lavin could have played it cool, and told Jordan, we'll miss you, but I've got a few red shirts that are dying to play. Then not only does he activate Felix, but starts him. IF IF IF IF Jordan was thinking of leaving and Lavin got him to stay, whatever he did or said you'd have to give him credit for. Jordan can become something special

Yea, true, maybe starting Felix made Rysheed think he needs us more than we need him or something. Maybe that's how it went down. But I feel bad for Felix, he lost a year of eligibility for playing time for what two weeks? That sucks, was hoping to have him further down the road, cause he seems like one of those guys who could be really solid when he gets older.

I heard Lavin burned Felix's redshirt year because he was pissed at him for farting in a team huddle!

Ask Marillac, he'll explain everythihg.

Since we're all talking out of our a$$ her, anyone ever think Felix didn't want to redshirt once he realized he got healthy quicker than expected and coach decided to activate him in case HE wanted to leave? That was one of my thoughts.

He was healthy for a long time.

Hey, I'm just talking out of mya$$ like everyone else. Thought the company line was he recovered quicker than they expected so they activated him (and he was killing it in practice, as they all do).

Take yourself out of it, think of the kid. Now does it matter?
