Felix Balamou Basketball Report Card

"Basketball is no charity. Players have to earn their time. But for a player in need of the development of a jump shot and a feel for the game as a guard, it would have been good for Balamou to get an extra year of eligibility."

If he had 10 years of eligibility his FT shooting wouldn't have climbed to 75%.

Great athlete. Not a basketball player

On the contrary he was a 77% ft shooter through his first 3 years with the team.

But Beast said.... :)

He endured a lot here and leaves with a degree and his head held high. While his classmate from OSNA made his mark in the SJU record books Felix is the man with the bright future. Best of luck to him. And thanks to him we avoided one less embarrassment - a loss to Rutgers at CA. He was an mvp on that night.

He should have gotten two minutes for tripping :cheer:

Obekpa package deal......lazy man's tactic.

I don't necessarily think that is true in all cases, but the man really elevated the laziness factor of a package deal to an art form while here.

see I disagree on this.Im very cool with oackage deals to get a real good player. It was worth the shot. Felix was a great kid and in no way embarrassed the team or the school. He was an end of the bench player on a good team,

I'd be more than happy for Mullin or Matt A to create some package deals in the future

Surely someone of your intellect understands statistically significant sampling. In his first three sju seasons, Balamou averaged 7 FTs per season. In 2015-2016 he went to the line 59 times - the result was painful to watch.

Thanks for lecture & biting. :)

Obekpa package deal......lazy man's tactic.

It's not lazy at all. It's plain dumb not to do it. Lou C pulled in D. Russel along with his teammate. Besides, Felix was a good prospect on his own.

Sorry OLV, Iove Felix and he had some shinning moments here, but there is no way he is a D1 player on a decent team. Don't even remember him being ranked coming out of HS.

So then if you agree he wasnt a d1 player how can you blast lavin for activating him while jordan was in philly if he was only a body to be used if jordan stayed on hiatus?

At the Walk for the Cure in the Fall I chatted with Felix for a while. He is a friend of my buddy & was very cordial. He bore no ill will for Lavin, but did say he was disappointed with the redshirt experience, noting things did not turn out the way he had been told. He also noted in Lavin regime several guys (not hard to guess who)not only frequently missed practices, but were not penalized on those occasions. Felix further stated that treatment was very discouraging to players who were compliant.

He concluded by saying he kept in touch with Lavin, wished him well & all in all had a good relationship with him.

Just wanted to share something pertinent to the topic.

Thanks for the insight Paultz. When you do not have a balanced and deep roster, and when you are coaching for contract extension, you don't have much leverage.

Why am I not at all surprised by Lavin's actions?
A real phony baloney
