Father Shanley Re SJU Facilities Need

CA is approaching sixty years old and obviously doesn’t have any modern conveniences but I have attended hundreds of games there and never felt that the arena was not maintained properly. Who ever is in charge of keeping it clean has always performed their job.
They may have kept it clean but the last time I was there, there were still no handrails in the upper bleaches which created a very a dangerous situation at best. Surprised no one ever fell and sued the school.?

There are no handrails in both the middle and upper levels and I do agree this would be a relatively minor move and the current situation is dangerous. I have seen people take some bad falls over the years.

Based on these two paragraphs, I guess Shanley is disappointed?

“There is significant hype for this season, hope that the Johnnies can win an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2000. But Shanley is looking beyond just one breakthrough season.“I hope we win a national championship while I’m here and I mean that,” he said. “I think that has to be the only goal for St. John’s: To compete for a national championship.”Maybe Shanley and others should stick to more realistic goals like finishing in the top half of the league?

We finished 4th last year. Would you have been happier if he said I hope we finish 5th?

Would you tell your kids or grandkids to aim for the middle of the class?

Or a new boss that I hope someday soon to make this company mediocre?

Really now.

If you've ever traveled to the regionals ( I have the previous 3 times) you get there and look at the giant draw with 68 teams, and it hits you that we are competing for a national championship, just 6 wins away when 300 other teams have already gone home.  What's wrong with that?

I'm going to guess the aisles may not be legally wide enough to put a handrail down the middle of the aisle

This was CMA at his 4 head coaching spots. Coach speak and President speak. Means nothing, except to some long starving SJU fans.

You would have to widen the aisles to put in handrails which means taking seats. While not a major rehab it is more than a minor change.

Generally speaking, programs in contention for national championships are not also talking about handrails and chairbacks.  Generally speaking.

Does anyone know how much is currently in the endowment? Also, what is the estimated cost to get the facilities to be where it needs to be?

———-

$937.687M much of which is no doubt restricted.

see #150 on the below link listing the endowments of 734 colleges and universities

I would imagine that a significant amount is invested in equities since the endowment was in the $700mm range 2 years ago.
Mich more important is how much you raise annually, in total and on a psr student basis. Schools that raise more can spend more. I would expect that in funds raised we are much further down the list.

I was at this year's Villanova game. While they may have upgraded the facility, The upper deck is solid concrete, not even benches. There aren't any guardrails either.

Father Shanley has been here for a year, let's give him a chance and see what happens. I realize that Carnesecca is sixty years old and needs improvements, but that is not his fault. This is the same trend that I see happening in regards to Mike Cragg and Coach Anderson. When some on here ask for posters to have a little patience, the response is that we have been patient for over twenty years. I find it completely nonsensical, they should not be judged on what happened before they got here.

I can only imagine what would happen if we judged our current wives or girlfriends based on disastrous prior marriages or relationships.

Time for my pre game nap before I head to the Garden to root for our team.
