EXTEND LAVIN NOW!!!!!

BYW, The fact that the subject on a 'extend Lavin' thread went to his misuse of timeouts means he should be extended. There's no talk about him knowing of 2 seperate rape allegations against his player for a year and not doing anything(Duke), kids not going to class (UNC), or discovering your whole organization is a disaster(Cuse).
His kids adore him, and he gets great players. He understands that most kids from NYC don't want to go to a campus in the middle of queens. He goes out of the city and sells MSG and NYC to them. Imagine your a kid from Christ the King and can play anywhere u want. You go see one game at a place like Kentucky and see their practice facility, then go to queens and see SJU. It's a no brainer. Now if your from a small town in middleofnowhere Missouri, and you go see MSG and NYC, you would be impressed.

Well here's my mentality on that. I'll live and die in NYC, and if I was a top recruit, I could never represent another state on my chest (unless it's the nba, where I'd be rolling in crazy cash.)
I'd want to bring the ncaa championship home to my city. THE BIG NYC BABY. The worlds capital.

Well if you're never leaving NYC then you don't know how good Kentucky's practice facilities (and cheerleaders) are so your opinion is moot. But seriously, watching NYC recruits the past 15 years it would seem folks who feel the same as you are pretty rare.

I completely understand that mentality, unfortunately most kids these days don't feel that way. For example, Kids leave their high schools all the time to go to better basketball high schools. And that's not including all the ones that leave the state to go to a prep school.

Yep, they kill calipari's coach k's, ku....all the elite schools ass.
If you know you are elite yourself, then you don't gotta go to those elite schools. College is all about getting good enough to be a 1st draft pick, you could do that anywhere.

If Dom was being recruited by uk and went there, would he be considered a 1st rnd draft pick? I doubt it. He'd be getting 15minutes instead of 35minutes this year.

Your right, he wouldn't be getting the minutes or the exposure. But he would be on a team that's 30-0, at even odds to win the national championship.

And that obviously means a lot to kids, if there are 9 McDonalds all Americans on 1 team.

And he would be treated like a rock star in Kentucky. Playing in front of sold out arenas every game. Sju vs Gtown had less then 14,000 at MSG for senior day and a huge game as far as a ncaa bid. They double that in a non league game vs western Kentucky.

I feel this thread should be locked immediately. As others have mentioned under "Next Coach", this is not the time to discuss the coach's tenure. :p

Yeah 30-0 and winning the nc is all good and everything, but that's all extra. My main concern would be to be the best, so maybe I'm a top 3 draft pick.
Winning the NC in college won't do a damn thing for my #1 goal. Making mega millions in the nba and hopefully winning NBA championships.

Yeah, it's a shame Cal can't get kids to the big show.

But we see where your priorities are, not that there's anything wrong with that. There is something wrong with thinking everyone share's them, though.

Here's what I would do, presuming we make the dance this year:

Extend Lavin for 3 additional seasons, but can buy him out at any time for $500K to $1 million. In effect they become non guaranteed years, and we can keep tacking a year on at the end of every season with the same total buyout clause.

In this manner any potential recruit knows Lavin is coach for next 4 years on an ongoing basis.

lol Hey, if they want to kiss their rings then hey by all means, let them. It's their choice, why should I care? I got my own life

Austour, first of all I am disappointed you have not changed your avatar as yet to improve your Karma.
As for practice facilities all basketball courts are the same and what goes on during practice is more important than the hot tub and massage with hi def tv afterwards.
Unfortunately NYC has been hurt by having players regularly leave to go prep and never to return to the Big Apple. I cannot blame them as I have walked the halls these kids walk in public schools where a police presence has become ubiquitous and attending games a challenge to most fans. The PSAL is no longer a source of high level recruits as it was 20 years ago. Even the CHSAA has regressed.
We at St. John's have gone the national route in recruiting because the few NY area players that are high level D1 players want, and need, a change of scenery.

give him a 4th year if he stops taking timeouts after huge 3 point buckets!

I thought about this topic a LOT, and all I kept coming back to was this: There has to be a reason he does it. No coach on ANY level does something as counterintuitive as this so consistently without a reason, and certainly not one who has a Hall of Fame coach basically right next to him every single time he does it.

So that begs the question: What's the reason? I have two possible explanations:

1. His team has show a propensity to not get back quickly after those big 3's, and effectively give the points right back. I've seen it happen, if you think about it, we all have.

and/or

2. Consolidate a lead and set the defense. And I've seen that as well.

To be fair, neither are likely correct and I suspect there's another reason - but it's my own fault: I skipped the day we covered "NCAA Div 1 BB Coaching Strategies" in Pharmacy School).

Now before anyone goes and crushes me about how it's a "momentum killer" - yes, we ALL understand, no need to beat the dead horse. All I'm proposing is that no coach - smart, dumb, or in-between - lacks an understanding of momentum and does something so against the grain without a reason.

Anyone else care to weigh in on possible logical/thoughtful explanations?

Admitting that there are a number of programs of substantially higher standing and more attractive to recruits than STJ is not kissing rings, denying same is delusional.

I like your thinking.

However, if (heaven forbid) we lose the next three, the pitchforks and torches will be out.

He could buy a lot of goodwill in the fan base by winning at least one in the BET and one or two in the NCAA's.

Can he convince Elbows and RJ23 to stay? Land a solid recruiting class? It will be an interesting few months.

BTW, I think the crap going down at UNC and SU will only enhance Lavin's bargaining position.

Maybe he has had enough and will hand the reins over to that young Keady guy.

I have a Love/Hate game by game opinion of Lavin. But in the big picture we have improved each year he has been here including back to back 20 win seasons (3 total in 5 years). The program is more relevant now than it has been since 1999-2000 season. Overall i believe he should receive a 3 year extension to his current contract.

I had a conversation with a major Booster in January (i think we were 1-4 in conference) i asked him if Lavin will be extended he said "Only if a miracle occurs"............ i believe it has.

Alright Patrick, you and me are both Joe3. Are you good enough to become RealFan and Miguel as well? Gotta love this board, it's great for laughs.

I don't know what Joe3 means? Enlighten me..... I have been following this board for years. I've been a sju fan for 35 years.
