I think Anderson can win w/o a huge recruiting class or even one big recruit. Since Louie left program constantly waiting on one big recruit or class. Finally have a coach that actually has a system and can recruit to fit that system. Going to take a few years so people won't be happy of course. If given ample time I think Anderson can build something sustainable though. Just my opinion.
Winning is one thing; winning big -- regularly competing for a BE title -- is something else. Aside from good coaching (which it looks like we have), it requires talent and depth.
Yeah that won't happen. Never really has except for couple outlier years in program history.
Winning 20 every year and competing for tourney bid every year. That should be our goal.

How was your off season?

Oddly enough, if we grab a big guy with our last ship, our 4 and 5 spots could be our strong point heading into coming rebuilding years. Steere, Roberts, Moore, Champagnie, 2020 big and we should be solid there. It’s the wings and SG we need more talent moving past this season. Contrary to how raw Roberts was last year, I didn’t expect him to come out of the gate looking like a player. He’s got a strong buy rating at this point. Not trying to hijack the thread.

Good input. Thanks MCNPA. Maybe we get good news on Dunn soon. You're right, he and Steere would raise the depth capable of 40 MOH regularly. And that solid 2020 Big would be a great Christmas present.

Lot of little league and travel baseball lol
Seriously the thinking that we can be Duke, Kentucky or Kansas is why this fan base is perpetually unhappy. Baby steps. We need to get better than being a leap year tourney team. Rattle off some consecutive 20 win years maybe make a tourney in consecutive years, possibly win a tourney game for first time in some of our younger posters lifetime then you can set your sights higher.

I'm with you on that, but if Villanova can rise to an elite level and Seton Hall can be a preseason favorite to win the BE, there's no excuse for our not being able to do the same. Why settle for less?

Don't waste your time if you don't wanna hear someone speak in absolutes and routinely uses fallacies as their backing points.

I agree with a lot of what has already been shared. I'll add a couple thoughts:

I know he didn't really score but I was happy with Rutherford. He's a capable ball handler, made sure the ball moved on offense and was a real pest defensively. That's exactly what I wanted to see out of him. He knows his role. If he can knock down the open jumper when he has it that would be extremely helpful. It'd be great if we had Dunn so Rutherford didn't have to be as heavily relied upon, but he looks very serviceable if not overly impressive.

Ball movement. I know it's been mentioned but we shouldn't overlook this. Remember how awful we were last season whenever we faced a zone? These guys may not be as talented but Anderson is making sure the ball doesn't stick. I think this is where Ponds can be addition by subtraction. No standing around waiting to see what Ponds would do. LJ & Heron are clearly the stars and go to guys but because they're not the primary ball handlers, the ball touches everyones hands which keeps everyone happy and invested in the flow of the game. I'm hopeful that zones won't be the riddle they were for us last season.

Coaching. Champagnie picked up that dumb second foul like 2 or 3 mins into the game. He didn't box out and then tried to wrestle the ball away from the Queens player who got the board. Very undisciplined Freshman mistake. I don't know what Anderson said but on the broadcast it seemed clear he let him know that was a dumb foul. He seemed on the guys and we didn't see any knucklehead dribbling, ill advised alley oop attempts 8 feet behind the line 3pt chucks, etc. We looked pretty disciplined considering it was an exhibition game. The only knock on coaching was 3 pt defense (our yearly dilemma it seems) I'm curious to see how we do in that area in these first couple games against mid-major cupcakes. Will Anderson find a way to fix that?

Folks who were at the game, how'd Coach look in timeouts, etc? It seemed like he had a chair designated for players who just came out so that he could talk with them. Is that accurate? Was he loud? Did he interact with refs at all?

CMA was excellent in the time outs; he did not waste time having a "group think" with the other coaches for half of the T/O nor did that waste time setting up "little chairs" away from the stands. He was very focused with the players and while I could not hear what he was saying, he looked like he was blunt about what was going on that he did not like on the court. He also shows plays that he diagrammed on the board that coaches use to show where he expected individuals to be. He was not the players "friend" but he was their Coach and demonstrated who was in charge and the players reacted well.
... Roberts really impressed me with his improvement. Looks like we found our starting PF, although likely to play center until Steere available. He made huge strides and likely one of those guys that will continue to get better under Anderson. Earlington, Caraher etc all look solid. Coming along and serviceable. ...
MCNPA, I too was impressed with what I saw. I Iove Roberts' athleticism, his energy, his work ethic, and his much-needed length, but we have to recognize that his performance -- however improved it was over last year's efforts -- came against a D2 Queens College team (one more undersized than ours), and that we have to see how he does against the big boys before getting too confident about his role on this team. Another case of time will tell.

Small sample, substandard opponent, but Roberts seems to have good hands, catches in traffic and seems to have good instincts cutting to hoop. Heron and he showed some good chemistry on a few pick and rolls.I suspect he will fare well under MA’s tutelage. Defensively he may get muscled down low by Watson types, but I think he could be a good help defender.

Ditto, Paultz re Roberts possibly being a solid, help defender. That's exactly what I said to myself last night.

Roberts can be help defender a la Tariq. On the plus side, he appears to be happy to score inside and on short jumpers.

I was pleased with Rutherford as well. He is a competent ball handler and good defender. Anderson is giving everyone a lot of confidence and the players are responding. While there is no clear 3rd scorer amongst this group, it seems like several of these guys can chip in.
Roberts very much improved
Williams needs to be more assertive on offense...needs to get Earlington’s conscience (which is none)
One additional observation...hope that our big 2 will not fall into trap of taking all perimeter shots...ultimately, we need to get our fair share of layups. Otherwise, we will have our fair share of blowouts.

Couldn't agree more Andrew. Nothing saying we can't reasonably successful with LJ & Heron giving us 36-37 per game and 4 or 5 other guys giving us between 7-9 ppg.

I hope I didn't sound like was down on the kid. I very happy he's here, and was impressed with his last night's performance. I'm pulling for him to fill a very important role on this team, but as I said, tougher opponents await him and time will tell.

It’s definitely his team. He’s not looking for consensus
