So I was talking today to SJUFAN2 about this and we were discussing Euro's and Matt A going out to see Freudenberg. The more you think about it the more I'm starting to believe we will become a pipeline for the top Euro players with Mullin for a lot of reasons.

Hearing Mussini after the game and his love for the garden and NY and seeing how Amar is so enthusiastic etc and Euro's in my opinion at least the high level kids being for the most part fundamentally sound will make them very attractive to Mullin

But another factor that no one has really talked about is the Porzingis factor. Don't underestimate this. Those Euro kids are going to see the love Porzingis gets here and him playing at msg with the fans going nuts and they are going to want to play where Porzingis plays. I could easily see Mullin grabbing a top Euro player every year.

This is something that can really put us over the top down the road and those kids can shoot. Oh man if Amar starts developing further this could be a fun ride over the years

Watching Amar's enthusiasm this season has been awesome. One of his twitter posts said something like "I love my teammates!" and another back in June said something to the effect that SJU and NYC is the best place to play for foreign students. He's been the essence of what college sports are supposed to be about, a gigantic kid with the wingspan of a 747, and a smile nearly as big, hugging teammates, celebrating every big play and every win as if it meant the world to him - whether he is on the court or not. I suspect it does mean the world to him, and its made him my favorite player this year - well before his career game yesterday. Congrats to him.

I noticed that yesterday when they ran that clip of him speaking on the scoreboard. You really have to hand it to these foreign kids. I work with a lot of Czechs who live in the CZR and mostly their English is great. Puts American kids to shame in some regards.

NY is a melting pot. A great destination for foreign players. It was interesting to hear Mullins post game interview. He said thank god for Lou, re; Mussinis recruitment.

yeah yesterday is when I noticed it too. I've actually noticed pretty much everywhere we travel that foreigners language skills are beyond superior to Americans. My guess is it's because a lot of them learn english early on or at least have a good understanding of it early. That's what helped Nathalie. Her parents sent her to bilingual school to learn english but then she decided she wanted to learn french too and ended up speaking french very fluently to the point where in Paris the parisians think she is french and she speaks pretty good Italian also.

Meanwhile after all this time the only spanish I know fluently is money, ordering food and cursing :)

When Freudenberg comes for a visit, the staff ought to take him out to eat at Zum Stammtisch on Myrtle ave in Glendale. The last of the original German restaurants in what once was one of the biggest German areas in all of NYC. The kid will feel right at home.

Or get him to Rolf's in NYC while they still have the christmas decorations up.

Was just there with friends last week. That egg nog is freaking good and oh man was it strong

Don't forget Steve lavin started to recruit in Europe too although I am not sure if he was really working hard or worried about the fine dining there.

I'm not sure how much you guys travel. I do quite a bit. When I'm in France or Germany or some other exotic place, the last thing I'm looking to eat is a hamburger and fries. I suspect it's the same with these kids who are here for a short visit. They're looking for a taste of NY not something that reminds them of home.

I get what you're saying but when you're traveling you know you're only there for a short time. These kids are visiting someplace that they may live for 9-11 months each year for four years so showing them something that might be of home style comfort along side the other diversity of New York isn't really a bad idea.

Yeah, that was the dumb take on here but he did bring in Ali and had an in home visit with Mussini with his mother who Lavin noted was a very special cook. Any way you look at it, it's good for St. John's.

You're talking about you visiting a foreign country, as opposed to kid living here for possibly 4 years. He may occasionally get home sick. In any event, I was joking around as I suspect Maher was. Guess you've been traveling so much that you lost your sense of humor somewhere along the way.

Nah. I think they go up early november and come down in late january.. They used to do other stuff at some point during the year but I forget when. Maybe octoberfest.

Hey I think every recruit should go to Rolf's at Christmas time. Even jewish recruits.

That's my #1 Christmas spot. Was there sat 12pm on thursday before the crowds. Freaking love that place

Don't forget Steve lavin started to recruit in Europe too although I am not sure if he was really working hard or worried about the fine dining there.

None us of have any way of knowing how much of lavin's recruiting trips actually involved recruiting. But my gut tells that most of Matt and Slice's recruiting trips are strictly business.
