Obekpa #12 on the list and Sampson is nowhere to be found.

Well at least there aren't other BE players on the list.

If its the list Bleaker report published yesterday, I thought he was at 19 or so.

Sampson did seem to back off his game a while back. I thought he might have been showing a bit of deference to those who were around last year. If he would stay close to the rim, would not mind seeing him get a little wild dog for a bit.

I think this ESPN list rolls on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, so Sampson may have been on the list a few versions ago, but not recently.

And we do not want Sampson to be found for another year or two.

He's fallen in love with that 15 to 18 foot jump shot and the problem is he's just not that good of a shooter yet

JaKarr needs to focus on attacking the rim and being in a position to get those easy buckets

He needs to take that shot to keep defenses honest. He lacks the bulk, and therefore the power moves to just work under the basket. I have seen a lot worse at SJU over the years from 15 feet. Far better touch considering the strange release.

I'd he wants to play at the next level though he's going to have to be more a threat on the perimeter. Tighten up that handle, and work on the long jump shot. You can't be a small forward in the nba and go a whole season without making a 3.

But, hopefully Jakarr takes the next 2 seasons to work on those things here at SJU.

FWIW Jakarr's stats look very similar to Malik Sealy's his freshman year. Difference is he doesn't take threes while Malik shot them at a 21% clip his freshman year. His mid range shot is not as good and nowhere near as smooth as Malik's but let's all hope he continues to grow into the player Malik was at St Johns.

I am ok with Sampson taking the 15-18 foot jumper. He has a good enough stroke. He just needs to mix in the dribble drive and maybe a post up or two. He will get there.

Hopefully he has also taken note of Harkless riding the pine in Orlando. I think we have him back next year.

All of that said, Sampson should be on this list in front of O.

yeah hopefully he takes note of Moe riding the pines and doesn't get a gander at his paycheck!

Well if we are only talking pay, Moe missed the big payday. He would have been a lottery pick if he stayed. Basketball wise I hope he is not 3 year and out of the NBA only to wind up overseas.

There is absolutely nothing quantitative about these top 25 or top 100 lists. Many of them are compliled by a single person who hasn't seen all the top players play. Not even sure if the guys who compile them attend all the super camps before trying to put players in a particular order. We've probably all seen more of both Sampson and Obepka than the guy who wrote the ESPN list. Once these guys step onto a court and play their first 1/2 a college season, you can throw the lists out the window because they aren't worth the paper they are printed on. At that point all that matters is how they are performing.

in our case, it's clear that both Obepka and Sampson are high D1 players capable of perfoming well at this level. Both have an upside far higher than we've seen so far. Nice job by Lavin in bringing them here.

Not really. I don't see him as a top 10 pick in 2013 either. Moving up to #11 in 2013 would bring about 1.5 million in extra money in the first three years but he'd be walking away from his 12/13 salary of 1.4 million so the net loss is minimal.

Then there is the delayed gratification. Money now vs. money a year from now.
