Did DePaul bring in some big class I'm not realizing? Also, when's the last time UConn was a bottom team? If you say DePaul will be better UConn has a great shot of being the worst or 2nd worst. Calhoun is #32 in the nation...aka well higher than anyone we have including Harkless who is now in the NBA. Nolan is in the 100's but he's still a top 150 on Rivals which is a very select group to begin with. Boatright is #42 nationally. For 2013 they have another top 150 coming in. Napier is also a top 150. Daniels is #10...TEN in the nation. So that's #32, #100, #42, and #10 recruits all on this year's team. And you think they will be worse than DePaul?
DePaul from what I can see, has a 2 star, a 3 star, and a few other 3 stars. The only bright spot I see is Billy Garrett Jr. #78 and he doesn't come until next year. You are basically saying a mid major team beats out UConn with 4 top 100's including one top 10 projected to go early in the draft. No way Jose.
Joe, I understand your thought processes but you need to forget about rankings for players you've already seen play. Boatwright is very good but he's no all-american. Napier as well. That said, Brandon Young was about as good as either of them last year, very good scorer, similar assist and TO ratio, not quite as good a shooter but they've got Morgan who's their primary 3 pt threat. None of these three are program changing players.
Calhoun could be very good though I doubt better than the other two, at least as a frosh. But I think Marcus is right, they'll need to play 3G offense because they don't have enough quality bigs and wings unless the German's have improved dramatically. As a third guard do you honestly think Calhoun can affect the game/improve the team as much as an all conference returning PF? I don't see it. UConn lost 4 of their top 6 (Lamb, Drummond, Oriakhi, Roscoe Smith) from a team that was mediocre last year (with two first round draft picks on the roster I might add) and replacde them with essentially only Calhoun, while losing the more important Calhoun. They went 8-10 last year in the BE. They will be worse. Depaul returns their top three players, all experienced. They will be better. They'll both likely win about 6 games in the BE. It'll be close between them but they'll both likely be in the bottom 5 of the BE.
THere's a reason why today's Streak for the Cash bet on the UConn games has 85% of voters betting UConn loses by double digits today to the Spartans. ; )
