Has St. John's ranked #76 in the country and 12th in the Big East.

Big East Team national ranks: Louisville #2, Syracuse #8, future BE member Memphis #15, ND #22, Cincinnati #24, Pitt #28, Marquette #30, Georgetown #32, future BE member Temple #42, Rutgers #45, Villanova #58, Seton Hall #69, South Florida #71, DePaul #105, UConn #108, Providence #122

How on earth is SH above us? And I thought you guys said Nova was so bad...apparently not 20 spots better than us.

Proof is the pudding. We can talk all we want about how much better we will be and casual observers of our program can talk about how far behind we are.

Until we roll out the balls and beat some good teams, we'll have to live with that. But I'll make a wager we finish higher up the list than most pre-season rankings suggest.

These preseason rankings mean nothing. Arkansas was ranked in the top 10 in college football in August, where are they now?

In a month the rankings will reflect what teams have done on the court, that's when they'll start to mean something. Louisville should be good, but struggled in an exhibition game the other day.

I could care less where experts put us in the preseason.

I'm sorry but these people do actually follow college bball, right?

A lot of preseason rankings and such are based off of the team's prior year finish, departing and incoming players.

How in the world would Rutgers, Seton Hall and Villanova be ranked ahead of USF?

Credibility goes straight out of the window.

I was reading some article on cbssports.com that was posted in a tweet today and it just came to me that especially in this day and age of social media, most of these analysts and recruiting "experts" are just glorified bloggers who have a forum. The days of tried and true journalism are dead.

It's hysterical. SH loses their 2 best players. Their best recruit Carr is in a legal mess and his best case scenario is missing a few months. SH might be the worst team in the Big East this year...maybe second to last. Rutgers is just not that good...they surprised a few teams last year and that's it. Also, no WAY DePaul is better than UConn...what a joke.

Uconn going to be awful this year.

Even if they take a few big steps backward, there is no way in hell they do worse than DePaul. I don't see how you can even make an argument that DePaul will be better than them. Hell, idk if we will even be better than UConn for sure. They still have very good recruits.

Joe, Carr is class of 2013 so he was never supposed to be on this team. Whether he'll make it there next year is the real question. But other than that you're right, SH is not very good. All they've got is Fuquan Edwin and Brian Oliver (transfer in). They've got wings but no guards or bigs to really speak of. I know you love UConn and ESPN had another article on their rumor site that D'Andre Daniels is looking good in practice.but he better or else DePaul could very well be better than them. They only have 4 bigs, Olander is a space eater, Wolff isn't much and I thought I read he hurt himself or was it one of their other Germans, and Nolan is a freshman project. They've obviously got 2 very good guards in Boatwright and Napier but let's face it, neither of them are Khalid E-Amin much less Kemba Walker. And of course they have Calhoun who should make an impact. DePaul returns Melvin who is better than than anyone I've mentioned so far and a very good PG in Brandon Young. They will likely compete for the best of the worst with Nova, SHU and UConn. Prov clearly in the basement. Re USF they have dropped a bit since the summer due to Waverly Austin, their big JC, not making it to campus. He was expected to be an impact big man so their expectations have dropped a little bit as they don't have an adequate replacement for Gilchrist.

1 good recruit in Calhoun.

Nolan can get good but he's a project like most 3 star recruits. Still think he could have used the extra year at prep school.

Boatright, Napier, Calhoun...I don't see how UConn is worse than DePaul still. I think Rutgers has a better chance of being 6th in the BE like one of those crazy analysts said, than DePaul doing better than UConn. UConn is on the decline but still has way too much talent to be that bad.

Melvin is one of the top 3 players in the BE. Brandon Young is a better true PG than Boatwright and Napier. It'll be close but if D'Andre Daniels plays like a dog like last year I'll take DePaul. If he plays to his potential coming out of HS then I'll take UConn.

You grew up with Uconn being the best program in the east and are buying into the mythology. You also apparently don't believe my point about the program living and dying by Jim Calhoun, and that's fair if that's the way you feel. My opinion is that Ollie is an unproven commodity but he was on the bench with Blaney during all those games that UConn looked like shit when Calhoun was sick the past few years. Just sayin'.

I will have to admit that yes, UConn being one of the top BE teams in my lifetime consistently is a reason I can never see them as worse than DePaul. I guess I will have to see some indication from an actual game that UConn has fallen off and is now a bottom level team. Until then, my gut tells me they will easily be better than DePaul. It will be fun to find out.

I really think that Melvin is overrated. He was/is the best player on a very bad team. The lack of talent around him makes him appear to be that much better. Put him on top teams in the BE I think he starts but is more of a role player.

In bold: Bingo! Very few who are credible, while many of 'em are hacks. Journalism is a far cry from 15-20 years ago.

Austin's, you're on the money with this stuff. As far as uconn's frontcourt goes, all you need to do is read their threads about their recent scrimmage. Apparently Nolan was awful in the frontcourt and not nearly ready. Uconn fans also said that Daniels looked much like last year and was disappointing. Omar Calhoun was excellent in the scrimmage, but we'll see how well his set shot works against better competition. I actually think they may need to run a 3 guard lineup because they lack forwards that are impact guys.

In addition to those issues, Jim Calhoun is no longer the bench coach and not even Blaney is there actively coaching. They will have their work cut out for them. DePaul will be better than Uconn this season.

Did DePaul bring in some big class I'm not realizing? Also, when's the last time UConn was a bottom team? If you say DePaul will be better UConn has a great shot of being the worst or 2nd worst. Calhoun is #32 in the nation...aka well higher than anyone we have including Harkless who is now in the NBA. Nolan is in the 100's but he's still a top 150 on Rivals which is a very select group to begin with. Boatright is #42 nationally. For 2013 they have another top 150 coming in. Napier is also a top 150. Daniels is #10...TEN in the nation. So that's #32, #100, #42, and #10 recruits all on this year's team. And you think they will be worse than DePaul?

DePaul from what I can see, has a 2 star, a 3 star, and a few other 3 stars. The only bright spot I see is Billy Garrett Jr. #78 and he doesn't come until next year. You are basically saying a mid major team beats out UConn with 4 top 100's including one top 10 projected to go early in the draft. No way Jose.

You tend to place way too much emphasis on rankings my friend.

Did you see how bad deandre Daniels was last year? He was their Mohamed Diakite thus far. Uconn has a good backcourt for sure. The problem is that they have nobody good at all over 6'3 or so. Nolan is far, far away from being a big contributor. Griffey going to struggle against good D1 defenders. Maybe we'll all be surprised, but I think they're going to get run out of the gym by Michigan State tonight. Even Uconn fans expect them to be pretty bad.
