Earlington

I loved everything about this kid but would not be shocked if his playing time decreases as the roster talent improves. Mullin didn't exactly bury him - he simply went with a short bench because the talent level dropped off a lot after Trimble.

Remember this year and the previous year were two totally different scenarios. As a frosh Marcellus watched a team that had the potential to make it through the 1st weekend of the ncaa tournament.

This season not only was the talent pool.shallow but Heron was injured early to boot. There were a lot of opportunity for anyone to step up with nothing to lose except expected games .

Marcellus stepped up. So did dunn and caraher. Rutherford had his moments. And Champagnie was a terrific find. All made the most of opportunity that just won't be there. The only two guys who are cinch starters from last year are Champagnie and Figueroa. Everyone else will battle to start Earlington included.

No question he was a great contributor on a team that lost 13 of 1i8 conference games. I'd love to see him build on that, but if his floor if solid reliable play off the bench on a better team that's okay too.
I know you weren’t suggesting otherwise Beast, but Earlington was so much more productive than Trimble. I’m sure Earlington improved dramatically from freshman to sophomore year, but I suspect he would have been more productive than Trimble had he played as a freshman. Mullin was wrong to bury Earlington, Roberts, and Williams. He should have developed them during the non-conference.
No question Earlington this season was far better than anything Trimble showed over 2 seasons. Roberts and Williams did get a chance at PT under Mullin. No question Earlington and Williams flourished under CMA, as dis Champagnie, Dunn, and Caraher
Williams got a little bit of PT under Mullin. Roberts barely player except for a few games beginning in the middle of the Big East season.

One of my favorite players, love his toughness. I have been waiting for a player like him to come our way for a while. Other programs like ours have always seemed to find one of these under the radar, hard working players that make a difference in the long run. Looks like we have our man.

Primed to have a tremendous season this year. Really blossomed toward the end of the year. Building consistency is the key for him. No reason he can’t avg 13 and 7 next year as a starter.

What I’d like to see form Earlington is more moves in the post, back to basket stuff and short-mid range jumper. He’s till young and tentative but has all the tools to be a Jayvaughn Pinkston type. He’s improved a ton and I think we will likely see that continue. If he can be problem in the post as a scoring PF, he can provide a lot.

Also, if he’s going to take three point shots and he did improved As the season progressed. I want to see Him be able to fake that shot and take the ball to The basket with his strength and get some and ones out of it.

If there’s one thing earlington isn’t its tentative.

Best comparison I can think of for ME is Roosevelt Jones. The four year Butler player improved each year. His senior stats were:

13.8 Pts
6.8 Rbs
4.7 Assists

They have similar body types as well. Jones was listed at 6'4", 230 lbs. The one thing ME has on Jones is a 3pt shot.
Weather he plays a lot or a little he can be counted on to provide the team with heart and energy
Plays a little???? He turned into the best player on this team by the end of the year.

The duke of earlington will start every game, lead this team in minutes played and be one of the top players in the big east next year.

Similar bodies but I really don’t see this. Jones was essentially a point guard for 3 years.

If you take Earlington's stats and adjust them to 30 MPG, he would have averaged 14.9 and 7.8. If he has good progression again this year, there's no reason to believe he can't do it. Wouldn't shock me if he led the team in minutes next year.

Exactly 2 years ago half this board was knocking the staff for having signed him. 20 months ago 3/4 s of the board was saying he will be the first to transfer in the off season. Now the majority of the board is wondering what his ceiling is. Just goes to show that rankings are not the end all and be all in déterminé à players future success. Great coaching, desire, determination and grit all play a huge role in a players future development. If Marcellus can make the same level jump from sophomore to junior as he did from freshman to sophomore he can become an all league player. Here is to Marcellus’s continued success.
