The improvement as the season has progressed has been crazy. I would have been happy for the kid if he was playing like this as a senior. When we made our run that almost (hate always having to type that word) won the game he was everywhere. Steals, offensive rebounds, baskets. Inside, outside.

Great stuff from him this month.

Of the three guys Mullin buried last year, he was the one that I most understood where Mullin was coming from, since he looked so raw while he was out there.

It's ironic (and a testament to him) that he's played the best, out of all three of them. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would get this from him, and it's happened enough now, that this is probably what the expectation should be now. Not 25 and 10 every night, like he had at Creighton, or even last night's game, but he must be considered an offensive threat going forward.

Prior to the season, I posted that Marcellus was simply not a Big East level player. After his strong start, I continued my skepticism and decided to withhold judgement until conference play.

Now, I am happy to have been dead wrong on this one. He is, and will continue to be, a significant contributor. When it comes to Earlington, God created an athlete (not a basketball player). Marcellus has made himself into a basketball player. Very impressive.

Panther and I both know the guy who brought Marcellus to staff’s attention initially in his senior year. Even that person felt he would be a positive force in locker room, but end of bench guy in Big East. Local hoops guys I know felt same. Like Johnny Fan, many of us are pleasantly surprised.

Very pleasantly surprised at what he has become. He has room to grow too, as an inside player and to round out his jumper a bit. I was wrong about him. He’s gotten a ton better and has had some big games. Happy to eat crow. He’s a keeper.

I love his efforts underneath. He is not easily moved off his spot. Only better things to look forward to. Glad he has outperformed my expectations for him which were positive.

I liked what i saw from the duke in his limited minutes last year. I knew he could be a special player for us.

I would like to see him lose about 10lbs and work w/ a speed/explosiveness trainer in the offseason. Along with getting up 500 plus jumpers a day.

The duke should be starting every game. Its criminal that he is not starting.

Does Earlington fully developed (Barkley, Bernard K, Mark Aguirre, Adrian Griffin repertoire) not fit in with Coach Mike's speed "em up
approach?

Just curious.
Were you SJU fan before Earlington came to SJU?
If so did you have a favorite player(s) before him?

I have always been an sju fan. Didnt follow them too closely until mullin was hired. With my kid getting older i had alot more time on my hands and became a die hard last year. This year ive become crazed and they have surpassed the jets as my favorite sports team.

good for you Duke.
Only a Jets fan can appreciate the virtues of being a Redman fan and vice versa.....
the virtues of infinite patience, eternal hope, and peptic acid.

At least the johnnies hired the right guy. The jets are stuck in hell w/ that fraud of a head coach.

I believe st john’s future is bright and the duke is a big part of that.

Don't leave out the joy the Mets bring us too.

Im not lumping the johnnies in w/ losers like the mets and the jets. The jonnies are actually overachieving. Even though they are not winning, the effort is tremendous and the future is bright.

The mets and jets are losers and will always be losers.

What he ^^ said ;)

At the rate he is improving, he should be excellent as an upperclassman.

The thing I love most about him is nobody is going to out hustle him. He has a nose for the ball and just has no fever. Yes that comes with Ill advised shots at times. But the improvement is super impressive.

A little crowing here; I know Marcellus and family a bit and while by no means predicting the level of player he might become, I did caution people not to underestimate him when he signed. His work ethic is legitimately second to none as I pointed out then. Good things can happen to those willing to work for them. “Always work for it harder than you hope for it.” (Another favorite quote of my Nanny, have no idea if it was hers but I sure did hear her say it a lot growing up.)
The Duke should be a candidate for Most Improved Player in the Big East
This staff gave him the opportunity and the coaching. He took the opportunity and ran with it.
