What has happened to the Duke? This guy came out of nowhere last year and in many games, was by far our best player. With a full offseason to work on his game, I was expecting an even better version this year.

But the exact opposite has happened. Hes been downright awful this year. how can a kid regress this much?

Im not buying hes trying to do too much. Plenty of games last year he tried to do too much and was successful.

Honestly, from what I recall, there were maybe four or five games at best where I recall Earlington was the best player on the floor for us. He's a good reserve who'll occasionally have a breakout game is how I'll describe him.

I like what he brings to the team when he seems focused, but I doubt he'll ever be a focal point or some sort of star as your posts seem to convey.

I think he's fighting above his weight class.

He's a great cleanup guy. Pick up some rebounds, some put backs, draw a few fouls and make some FT's. Get a steal or block here or there and bang a bit .

But being the guy with the ball is not where its at for him. He's not quick on either side of ball, a slow release, no moves etc.

I like Duke as a garbage man, one who appreciates that a garbage man is a noble job. Call him a sanitation worker if he'll feel appreciated more vs. seeking a foreman role in the dept.

If just did dirty work and played to his strengths could be a serviceable rotation player. Looks to shoot every time he touches the ball and tries to do things over his skill level.
On a more positive side Champagne playing like Malik Sealy

I think he'll feel even more appreciated if we call him a garbologist.

As others said he needs to ge the dirty work guy. He has great moves near the basket as far as body control and good knack for hitting those shots. I think he is having tough time with our much quicker pgs as far as quickness tempo and he definitely shouldn’t be looking for his shot first every time

I think you nailed it. The game has sped up and he's not there yet. He's made some good plays and bad decisions so far this season. Like muscle memory it takes a lot of practice to get to the point where you are making good decisions at a frenetic pace. Also a lot of good chemistry/teamwork to make that work. All the new pieces and new guy Posh leading everything and it will take some time.

He only played 13 minutes tonight. He is quickly getting in the doghouse.

I just dont get it. All offseason to improve and he comes back dramatically worse. makes no sense.

I agree with Paul. I think he is useful player and the way some people have turned on him is unfair IMO. His decisions are suspect which should be addressed but he needs to come with the aggressiveness (other than shooting) he had last year and let the game come to him (cliche of the day).

Has been bad. And hasn’t helped himself. Way too many catches beyond the 3 pt line. Get him on the baseline and the block. I was higher than anyone on him and I’m disappointed but don’t throw him out! We need baskets in the paint, that’s gotta be you ME.

I have been an Earlington supporter for two years. However, lately it seems that he has convinced himself that he id a three point threat. His best contribution should be midrange, inside the arc, and under the basket. Above all he needs to stop attempting threes from mid court.

Had success last year coming out of nowhere.

1. Expected to do more this year and wants to be a star instead of doing what made him successful last year.
2. Star/shooter mentality without the ability.
3. Forcing things instead of letting come to him and staying in the flow of things.
4. Not syncing well when on the court at the same time with Toro or Moore giving him less room to operate and “do his thing”.

Spot on. He has to find his role on this team. Last year he settled in because he was comfortable and he knew what to expect every game. Now he's looking over his shoulder. It's all mental. Still very early so I'm not going to panic. I think he'll find his groove and be a valuable guy as we get into Big East. I do think he should forget the perimeter right now and work from foul line in. Anderson needs to get him in position where he can score. He's taking way too many long jumpers and way too quick.
