Dom Wins Haggerty Award

By my count - and I'm no espken - Sir Dom finished his SJU career 3rd all time in career blocks and 5th all time in steals. His 80 blocks this season are the most recorded by a Johnnie not named Obepka. He also had 300 assists in his career.

His most incredible accomplishment was proving many wrong with a senior season in which he led a beat up and outgunned team to the tournament.

It was enjoyable seeing him turn around his game after a junior year when he dropped off from a very promising sophomore season.

This guy deserves a lot of credit for sticking it out during the down times and putting together a career that made it's mark in the record books.

Congrats to Sir Dom and well deserved. Not to pat myself on the back but it looks like my evaluation of Dom as an incoming freshman when I called him a poor man's Michael Jordan was not to far off. :)

I would like to offer that Lavin did figure mightily in Dom's senior year by unleashing him to lead the fast break. Much of SJU's success last season, much of Dom's success, began with Pointer pushing the ball upcourt in transition. With as many as 4 other guards on the court at once, allowing Dom to handle the ball in the open court was far from a given. All parts of Dom's game were elevated for certain, including his mid-range offensive game, but without being given the green light to lead the very effective transition game, he would not have been nearly as effective. Maybe it was by sheer necessity, but Lavin does have a lot to do with Dom's successful senior season.
