Dom may be the key

I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately, but Dom might have had his best game of his career tonight. It seems like that is an emerging theme. What a weapon he is when he plays like this. Jesus.

9 points, 9 boards (4 offensive!), 4 steals, 5 assists, and ZERO turnovers. He played tremendous defense as well.

This is what drove me so nuts last season...knowing he could be playing like this instead of sitting on the perimeter.

We get it Marillac.

I killed the kid last year. It's only right to give him props when he deserves it.

Dom has Marillac audio quotes dubbed over eye of the tiger song on a loop when he works out

Not that these things really matter but I waited around after the game to hear the all tournament team announced. I was both surprised and disappointed to see Dom omitted from the all tourney team. I thought he was the most deserving player on St. John's for his combined two game performance. They named both Harrison and Jordan to the all tourney team and while they both played well, Dom still would have been my first selection from St. John's.

Agree. Jordan's 15 TOs in two games supports your point Imo.

Stat Comparison for the two day tourney:
Jordan: 74 Min, Pts. 36, FG 11-30, 3 Pt. 1-8, FT 13-23, Reb. 10, ASt. 4, Blk. 1, Stl. 7, TO 15
Harrison: 78 Min, Pts. 34, FG 9-33, 3 Pt. 4-15, FT 12-15, Reb. 14, ASt. 3, Blk. 1, Stl. 6, TO 4
Pointer: 61 Min, Pts. 17, FG 7-12, 3 Pt. 0-1, FT 3-7, Reb. 20, ASt. 8, Blk. 1, Stl. 9, TO 2

Jordan had some great moments but he also turned the ball over constantly and was erratic at times.

Pointer was really very efficient. He did not shoot much but hit only two less shots from the floor than Harrison did despite taking 21 less attempts. Also Dom was a force on both defense and the boards. He led the team in steals, rebounds and assists over the two days.

Dom gets the ball in the right players hands - tonight he delivered to Phil. He's a very good passing forward.

Dom played very well last night. Still think having a player who refuses to shoot open jumpers hurts us far too often. Ill never question his desire though.

Dom is my favorite player on the team and has played great this season. The one thing I realized is that while he is a great athlete, he is not that coordinated. His shooting and dribbling problems are not just from a lack of practice. If he was more coordinated, he would be a solid NBA player.

Here is my problem with Pointer. In any other arena in the country, blatantly sticking out your leg to trip a player gets the opposing team 2 free throws plus the next possession. The fact that that didn't happen last night was a gift. We've seen this movie with Pointer many times in the past and it blows my mind that as a senior he is still doing crap like that.

It had nothing to do with the arena. The officials were dreadful all night both ways.

Five weeks into the season and we have a forward averaging 10 ppg hitting 57% of his shots.

He's top 4 in the league in rebounding and top three in steals.

He's top 15 in assists and he has 2/1 Assists to T/O ratio.

When was the last time this team had a player with all around numbers like this?

He also has his share of blocked shots. He has really stepped up his game, which is very fortunate for us w our lack of front court depth. He also has been good w his FTs.

if Dom is the key to this team we are in big trouble
Dom has been out of position for 3 years. This is on Lavin and I am a Lavin supporter. Cut Dom some slack.

I have always been a Dom supporter and compared him to Postell years ago on this board. The worst thing that happened to Dom was the arrival of Sanchez. He forced his game last year because he wanted to prove himself for playing time. I had no doubt he would play well this year --- way too much talent not to. I believe this is one of the reasons Marillac thought this team would be better than last year, and I agree.
