Distribution of Minutes

My main concern with that breakdown of minutes is that if Pinzon and Traore play a combined 4 mpg, we won't be getting LuHi kids for a while afterward. I know they have to earn it and we have a lot of depth, but the game is not what it was 35 years ago.

Solid breakdown, but I do think Soriano will be third on the team in minutes.

That was kind of my thinking when starting this thread. CMA will have a difficult task of putting the best team on the floor while also finding minutes for his younger recruits and keeping them happy.

know 80 min for Nyiwe is a bit much lol but I think many are overlooking him. The little practice clip I saw I liked his ball handling, dribbling and we know he can jump. Think he gets more mins than we think

Only newcomers I've seen play at college level are Smith & Mathis, both of whom I do think should get plenty of burn and be able to score at BE level. Integrating a deep, talented team with lots of newcomers is a challenge but a good one to face, much better than the years where we had no bench at all. We'll be fine, albeit with an early adjustment period.
Not worried about Champ's comments about not playing the 5; there's no reason he'll need to this year with Soriano, Stanley, Nyiwe (and maybe even Wheeler) sharing minutes there. See Champ splitting minutes between the 3 and 4 roles which will be good for both him and the team. He's never going to be a 2 in the NBA anyway.
Can't wait to start hearing how these guys are jelling in practices come September/October.

Can anyone remember any American East players who excelled and then tried to transfer up? I’m sure there are examples but the only one I can think of is Joe Cremo from Albany to Nova, and we don’t want that exchange rate!

Soriano will improve substantially. Goal is getting into Anderson shape,  and improving his shooting from outside the paint/passing out of the post

he will help the most defensively right off the bat

That last part is the most important. We don’t need Soriano to be an offensive stud, we need him to be a decent passer on offense and a clog in the middle on defense.

Fun topic to try and figure out minutes but honestly there is no way of saying who gets what aside from posh and champaigne.  At this point Its a crap shoot and coach will figure it all out during practices and then how it translates during games.

I share your concern, LJSA. It's important that these guys, especially Pinzon, see some serious minutes -- provided, of course, they're productive when they get PT.

Here are all the examples I could find since 2010 of American East players transferring to power conference schools. The results are a bit of a reminder as to the difference in competition level.

Exactly right, Eric. I love posters who talk about how many minutes this guy and that guy should get yet have never seen most of them ever play basketball.

We have 3 holdovers from last season (Posh, Champ and Wusu) and a slew of newcomers to our program.

I have full faith and confidence that our staff will figure it out.

Some posters have a lot of experience playing the game if one has seen you tube of a player, it is not hard to elvauate talent esp if we are talking about very good players you may also determine who will be a player ,with the right coaching will surprise

Maurice Watson started out at BU when they were still in the AE in 2013 and was an impact player at Creighton. Overall I agree with you, there are very few examples of AE players transferring up and having any real success.

The question of minutes distribution is a good problem to have.

The way I see it, I hope Smith will be close in output/productivity that Dunn provided; Soriano and Nyiwe should be an updrade in the middle over Roberts/Toro/Moore; Mathis could be an upgrade over GW, particularly giving consistent minutes over an often-injured GW; Wheeler should be able to play the 4, thus freeing up Champ to play consistently the 3 (and maybe 2), thus being an upgrade over the very inconsistent Cole.  An unknown is whether Pinzon/Stanley/Traore can provide Earlington-quality production and minutes; I'm banking on yes.  Plus, this roster's depth can withstand any injury better than last year's and certainly much better than during the Mullin years.

And looking at the rest of the BE, most rosters have multiple new players to be integrated; I trust our core of Champ, Posh and Wusu to give us a top 3 finish in the conference, which will most likely result in a bid.

Ah good find. They were in the patriot the year he transferred out. He was definitely able to make the jump as a player.
