Depaul

Completely agree. A good second half vs. Nova, good games vs WV and Duke, now let's get some W's and build momentum for next year.

Our record is 9-12 but we're. OT out of anything by any means. If we beat DePaul we're in the tuck of things in e Big East. No doubt with our lack of depth it will be near impossible to put together any sort of BET run, but I'm not counting these kids out of a good run on this second half of the season. DePeul, RU, Seton Hall, Pitt, Notre Dame are all very beatable teams. We have a chance to win all those games and others as well. Gotta take one game at a time. If we beat DePaul we will be 10-12 and not in horrible position. Long way to go.

I dont see how we lose against depaul. i just looked it up, all their loses in b.e. play were double digit blowouts except for one. thay have two wins, pitt and rutgers.
the only thing im afraid of is the ugly halfcourt slugfest where both teams shoot 30 percent and struggle to reach 50 points. we might be in a little
trouble if that happens. anyone know why depaul been so awfull for so long? is it the campus? is it located in the city?

It'd be great if the team could get to .500 and force a bid to the NIT. Any kind of post-season experience would be a great learning tool for this group.

But like BuckNasty said, gotta take it step-by-step and beat DePaul this week.

For the most part it has been bad coaching hires but I believe they failed to adapt to the times, much like we did after Coach C retired.

they had a lot of similar problems that SJU did at the turn of the century. Antiquated practice / training facilities, poor coaching hires, and a large arena away from Campus.

Agree. Purnell isn't a bad coach. He's a decent one. He just stepped into a really downtrodden DePaul program when he got there.. They are actually getting better but have a way to go yet.

Having lived in Chicago, here is my take on the problems of DePaul. Their issues, as previously pointed out, mirror ours. A legendary coach retires, the follow-up coach (his son) is not as good...then a series of poor coaching hires. Combine that with a complete inability to keep local talent at home (sound familiar?), plus a strange media market that fawns over Illinois, Indiana and (to a lesser extent) Northwestern. Even with their rich history, the Blue Deamons are relegated to 2nd class status in their home city, getting as much ink as Loyola.
Things seem to be looking a little brighter...I really hope that they can pull it together one day. We have played some classic games against them in the past (including an NCAA tourney game that was "stolen" from us)...

We got blown out by South Florida.

We can lose to DePaul.

I agree, we have been inconsistent all year which obviously goes along with being young and thin in terms of depth. We can lose (or beat) just about anyone.

This game will be a tug of war . While it's easy to say we aren't good enough to have a "trap" game, fact of the matter is both programs are struggling, and look at this game as very winnable. This team will show me even more growth if we can gut this out, especially with Cuse coming to town.
