Defensive effort

I will say this. No matter what happens I thought the last 2 years though frustrating at times, the teams were enjoyable to watch. Sorry to keep bringing it back to Norm but he was really the only coach here who I absolutely wanted to be fired. His teams were bad and terrible to watch. Don't find that with Mullin even if the results have not been great.
Were you a fan of SJU when Mullin played?
I became a fan during Mullin's senior season (of course, the year the Johnnies were ranked #1 in the country for several weeks and the last time we went to the Final Four). But I first witnessed Mullin play when he was a sophomore, as I'm a longer college hoops fan than I am a St. John's fan.

The difference is I can separate Mullin the player from Mullin the coach. So, the hell with nostalgia and affinity towards him as being a Johnnies legend. I'd feel the same way if it was Walter Berry, as he's the player that initially caught my attention (and my favorite St. John's player of all-time, if I had to choose one) when I became a fan of the Johnnies.

Toss that nostalgia BS out the door, as it doesn't win games.
Thought it won 8 games?

The coaches have assured he and I that they are going to steadily integrate him into the rotation. He’s excited to be back in NY and show his hometown what he has to offer

Now ultimately closing out on shooters is just effort and it is on the players. I am positive that the message of closing out with more effort is being told to the players. However the fact that his has been a theme for two years now and is the primary reason we have not played well to date, it should be the primary theme for the team. It should be the team's manta at this point. In all the interviews I have read and the Mullin interview the fact that we simply do not guard on the perimeter was not even mentioned. How is that possible. And that message should start at the top so yes I blame Mullin and staff for this message not being properly sent and or received.
We're 8-0
Stop complaining.
Exactly. Didn't you know if SJU pressed the whole game they would have won by 50 and no one would have cared about all the 3 pointers they gave up anyway.
You're such a sniveling little dweeb. You've never played or coached an organized sport in your life, so I don't expect you to understand the purpose of a game like this.

Do you want to add stupid to your first ballot Horrible Poster Hall of Fame resume? You're already the most annoying and unlikable person ever to grace a St. John's forum. Adding stupidity would make you a prolific triple threat.
Jesus...anyway some people seem fairly confident there's a chance Heron comes back. I thought the feeling was that was a longshot, or has that changed? If he came back that would be huge for next year as he would be the focal point of our offense and we'd have 2 legit big men.
Staff is not as confident about that I can say with certainty.

Born in NY apparently, not sure how long he lived here but;

There is an incredible difference in playing like crap and losing and playing like crap and winning, especially against inferior competition.

I can tell you that the staff will listen to player's desires about leaving for the NBA, and very wisely not inject their opinions to others, either privately or publicly. That I can tell you with certainty.

It makes zero sense to publicly say a player is or isn't ready for the NBA when just about every rotation player has aspirations to make money playing the sport as soon as possible.

Eight games in to his career, and Roberts and his family were already concerned enough to talk to coach about it? This also leaves staff open to breaking a promise.

The kid should getting some time. We need what he brings. I understand that they want him to have a full understanding of the offense etc. But, in the small sample I’ve seen, we need what he brings on defense. The ability to rebound , block shots and he plays aggressively. If we have to force feed him then so be it. We have to develop him. I’m not saying 10 minutes a game but at least 2 or 3 with the starters to develop this kid and start him getting comfortable. There will come time this season when we will need him.

I sat right behind the Texas Tech bench at the AA Arena. During every time out, a Tech A.C. held up a big placard that said "Close Out On the Shooters". Maybe we need someone with nice penmanship to put together a big poster with those words. Mike Zaun will hold it up during timeouts.

From the upper deck, alternating with a sign that pleads, "Move me to the seatbacks!"

So we should bring back Little Jarvis you're saying? :)

Speaking of Jarvis, I just re-watched the four-part 'The Season" with SJU in 2001-2002 season on Youtube. It was very interesting to see after all these years. One of the things that I liked was Jarvis telling the team "from now on nobody will shoot a three except Marcus, Donald, and Kyle. Does anyone else have a problem with that and think they should be allowed to shoot? " Eric King raised his hand and said he thinks he should be on the list and Jarvis responded "I don't think so. I actually want to win games, so no you can't shoot threes." Paraphrasing of course. Jarvis rode King like nothing I've ever seen. "Sorry I want you to be great, Eric."

If you look close you can see many posters who were students then.

I was sitting very close to the bench at MSG when during one game Eric King took a 12 foot jumper from the right baseline, and it was obviously not the shot the play was designed for. Jarvis immediately yanked him, and then for what seemed like 5 minutes, got uncomfortably in King's face, repeatedly asking him "Why'd you shoot", as if he was trying to get King to explode at him. It was uncomfortable watching it, and likely just one of many reasons King transferred at the end of that season.
