D'Angelo & Mullin

It's always fun to compare players from different eras...Mullin vs Harrison is interesting only because DLO has brought it up via Robbins in the Post.. A lot has been made lately of Lebron vs MJ too..

Both comparisons are no contest in my mind. The '92 Dream Teamers in a cake walk.

Another interesting match up would be Sampson vs Berry.. Another no contest.

Sampson vs Sealy.. Malik..

I believe everyone is behind Dlo. No one hates him. How could you hate a kid on your own team just because he may display some emotion on the court. However some people may comment on some aspects of his game (ie. he has been the only player on the team that had to be disciplined a few times earlier in the seasoon) and should be free to do so without being labeled haters of Dlo. When you correct, discipline or constructively criticize your child does that mean you don't love them. If my kid comes home from school and informs me he was suspended for cursing out a teacher should I pat him on the head and say "good job Johnny?'. If I reacted to the slight criticisms of Dlo the way some of you do when my father criticized me I would have transferred families when I was a kid. Bet you Dlo takes the criticisms better himself than some of you do. Toughen up a bit already and stop being so sensitive. This isn't kindergarden FCOL.

You might as well just address this post to me.

You make some great analogies there about kids coming home from school and such. The point I have made and others have made in regards to those who seem to take him to task is they don't like his attitude. They think he throws up bad shots all the time but then the quiet one from Chicago who takes just as many bad jumpers and isn't as good of a player is reveled as this great thing. And it has created a divide between the fans as those who pull for the underdog and hate the cocky arrogant one who every coach in the BE would give their left arm to have. Heck we even had a couple posters critical of his hairstyle and body ink.

I was quick to point out in this thread that Dee's exuberance was celebrated last year when he was talking about Final Four's. But compare himself to the best player in the programs history and I can only imagine the comments that would come flowing. Chalk it up to a boring President's Day for Lenn to write his column and there not to be many responses.

I think you confuse hate with the fact that some on the board, led by you, have dramatically overrated Harrison. He is a good player on, unfortunately, what have been bad (or this year, decent) teams. You guys have acted like he is a collegiate Kobe and he isn't. He has made big shots for sure and has sometmes carried us at the end of games, no question. He has also played very poorly and selfishly in some games. Forget the body language on court, he has had to be disciplined several times and wh knows how that has affected the team? Maybe not at all, but maybe some. On a team without a leader that type of thing can have a negative affect, but again, maybe not. My take on Harrison is he is not nearly as good as you make him out to be, and not the villian you percieve some to think he is.

You watch our games. You see how incompetent we are offensively when he is not in the game. Why don't more people realize how horrible we would be without him, thats my only point. Everyone is so quick to say he takes 'bad' shots and he's not a team player. I just find it funny that he is villified as much as he is and if you don't think posters here villify him than frankly I don't know what to tell you because people act like he ran over their dog. Remove his points from the lineup and by god our games would be like poking a voodoo doll. Nobody ever called him Kobe or whatever other crazy sarcastic analogy you want to use.

The fact is plain and simple he is the 2nd/3rd leading scorer in the conference and its scary to think of both our team without him and also our team with more offensive options so he isn't keyed on to take these 'bad' shots you and others keep referring too.

Agree, Moose. What a way for bama to paint a broad brush. I'm a bit surprised he's still over here with the piranhas and slurpers.

I can't recall a whole lot of posters running to Harrison's rescue. Very, early in the season there were a handful of posters backing him up.

Many acknowledged him to be a good player, but quite a few were also lamenting about his on-court demeanor.

Only guy I might give a shot to shoot threes against Mullin is Hooper. Those shot-counter numbers he was putting up last year were ridiculous.

Those were 3's?

Moose, Although it's not the same situation, people said similar things about Anthony Mason Junior, but in the end he was so disruptive to a smooth flowing offense that we were better off without him. Just because a guy scores ona bad offensive team doesn't mean that the team wouldn't be better with the guys selecting better shots overall. My guess is that if you removed all the ill advised shots, his overall shooting percentage begins to climb towards 50% - it's called letting the game come to you, and playing within yourself.

He compares himself to Mullin - Mullin, one of the best shooters in NBA history, was never a guy to force a shot. D'Lo should take a cue.

Kid from Chicago made out to be great? When, Where, by Who, What? Phil gets slammed more them Harrison. Some around here were makin the kid out to be Oscar, and you can't be him if you got holes in your game. I like having Harrison here, but wonder if he gonna be happy hanging out for a while. Phil be really thankful knowing posters here making him out to be great.

We're very fortunate to have him. Where would this team be without him? (Probably fighting it out with DePaul, SH, and USF for the bottom spot in the BE.)

I love how in control Mullin always looked.... the man played with such poise.

D-Lo will never be Mullin, however the person he should watch tapes of and aspire to be like is Marcus Hatten.... Seemed like every time he handled the rock with a minute left to play, the ball went in!

Thanks for posting these stats!

Hatten was 2nd in the nation in steals with 100! Totally forgot about that...

Loved to take risks. And was smart about it. Tough combo to find.

Hatten (SR) vs. Harrison (Soph)

http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/compare?add=d-angelo-harrison&p1=marcus-hatten

42% vs. 40% from field
30% vs. 31% from 3
73% vs. 78% from line

Mullin talk is obviously silly!
I am a Harrison fan and I think he gets unfairly criticized by some on these boards. That being said IMO Hatten and Hardy were both better.

I agree Hatten was better. He had element to his game I don't know if Dee will develop. That being said either way we need to hopefully see how Dee looks when he's a Sr like them.

Unfortunately for one reason or another I don't feel confident we will get to that point with Harrison

Hatten was a monster! He would smile the entire time, while ripping up the opposition.

He was incredible at getting steals. Smart, cunning, quick hands, and impeccable timing. Loved Hatten.
