D'Angelo & Mullin

I guess I like D'Lo's spirit but he is delusional if he thinks he shoots as well as Mullin. He is also committing Redmen heiracy, commenting in a less then godly tone about our deity, Number 20.

Another reason for our fans to hate him. I love it. Can't wait for the comments after his next single digit scoring game.

It's hard to like someone who has an inflated ego and poor body language and demeanor on the court
Better shooter than Mullin?
He's absolutely nuts!

Chris was a better shooter than Larry Bird, MJ and even Oscar Robertson, he was that good of a pure shooter. D-Lo has a ways to go.

He also made statements last year about making the Final Four. People loved his crazy comments then.

I'll choose to believe the remark is just good-natured hubris from D'lo. Nothing wrong with a little fun trash talk between the two of them.

The no-way-NBA quote was interesting. I hope we get two more years from Harrison. Curious how Chris might have fared after his soph season. Would he have been ready?

Agree! Are there posters who prefer we never recruited Harrison or have no problem with his leaving early? I could not imagine where we would be without him.

Didn't Mullin have a shooting contest with one of the Lady SJU freshmen who thought she could take him?

It's all in good fun people. Calm down.

Be thankful we have a respected HOFer with every connection in the book keeping our players' names out there.

My thoughts exactly. Most of us only see a really intense version of this kid on the court. I seriously doubt he meant any disrespect to Mullin or the past. I wonder what the response would be if Sampson said he could take Lebron? First of all he'd be smiling when he said it whether he was serious or not...

Why does everybody hate him?
Moose thinks that anyone that does not genuflect at Dlo's alter hates him.

D'Lo is easily the most misunderstood kid on the team. Guys, relax. He is a young kid that plays extremely hard with emotions on his sleeve. If it weren't for him, we would be a sub .500 team and probably don't even have a ranked win yet between last year and this year. No one is perfect...you can't judge a man's character by his heat of the moment on court antics. When he steps off the court and does interviews like on the Red Storm Report he seems like a happy go lucky kid with NBA and Final Four dreams. He wants nothing more than to give everyone on this board what they want: a title. I think people really need to stop throwing rocks at him and start getting behind him. If you want some stoic, nonchalant player then why not watch DIII games?

Look at Mullin's SJU AND NBA shooting percentage, and then look at Harrison's. It is crazy talk, but no reason to hate Harrison for that.

It reminds me of a story way back when that you can still find on the net. Mullin was a HS play at a summer camp, when some hotshot made a similar comment about being a better shooter than Mullin. Only back then without an NBA resume, and dual HOF elections, the kid actually boasted that he was better than Mullin.

He challenged Chris to a shooting contest. Mullin took the ball first, shooting until he missed. Starting at the foul line he edged backwards towards midcourt as he made shot after shot. He had made about fifty in a row, the last bunch from 45 feeet or so, when the kid, realizing what an ass he had just made himself, quit.

Not sure if this is the story, but drop down to the blog, it sounds a lot like it:

For the record, those who saw him would probably agree that he was an even better passer than shooter.

Yep, I love Mullin, and felt privileged to see him play every home game and a bunch on the road for the Redmen.

I don't hate Harrison at all, and in fact, like his toughness and desire to win. I love his confidence, and would love to see him shoot like Mullin over the next 5 games - then we can believe 4 wins is possible.

Here's another great Mullin interview, this time with Harvey Araton:

I believe everyone is behind Dlo. No one hates him. How could you hate a kid on your own team just because he may display some emotion on the court. However some people may comment on some aspects of his game (ie. he has been the only player on the team that had to be disciplined a few times earlier in the seasoon) and should be free to do so without being labeled haters of Dlo. When you correct, discipline or constructively criticize your child does that mean you don't love them. If my kid comes home from school and informs me he was suspended for cursing out a teacher should I pat him on the head and say "good job Johnny?'. If I reacted to the slight criticisms of Dlo the way some of you do when my father criticized me I would have transferred families when I was a kid. Bet you Dlo takes the criticisms better himself than some of you do. Toughen up a bit already and stop being so sensitive. This isn't kindergarden FCOL.

You might as well just address this post to me.

You make some great analogies there about kids coming home from school and such. The point I have made and others have made in regards to those who seem to take him to task is they don't like his attitude. They think he throws up bad shots all the time but then the quiet one from Chicago who takes just as many bad jumpers and isn't as good of a player is reveled as this great thing. And it has created a divide between the fans as those who pull for the underdog and hate the cocky arrogant one who every coach in the BE would give their left arm to have. Heck we even had a couple posters critical of his hairstyle and body ink.

I was quick to point out in this thread that Dee's exuberance was celebrated last year when he was talking about Final Four's. But compare himself to the best player in the programs history and I can only imagine the comments that would come flowing. Chalk it up to a boring President's Day for Lenn to write his column and there not to be many responses.

I think you confuse hate with the fact that some on the board, led by you, have dramatically overrated Harrison. He is a good player on, unfortunately, what have been bad (or this year, decent) teams. You guys have acted like he is a collegiate Kobe and he isn't. He has made big shots for sure and has sometmes carried us at the end of games, no question. He has also played very poorly and selfishly in some games. Forget the body language on court, he has had to be disciplined several times and wh knows how that has affected the team? Maybe not at all, but maybe some. On a team without a leader that type of thing can have a negative affect, but again, maybe not. My take on Harrison is he is not nearly as good as you make him out to be, and not the villian you percieve some to think he is.

I think the subject of the article may explain the problem. Harrison thinks he's as good a shooter as Mullin, but the boxscores say otherwise. Doing a check of Harrison's game by game stats, and you will that overall there are very few games where he has made more than 1/2 his shots. Maybe to some here, shooting 6-17 and scoring 20 points is a good game.

Compare our Guards:

Name FG% 3pt%
Harrison 40.3 31.2
Greene 36.5 25.6
Branch 49.3 42.9

So, Moose is correct to say that Greene does not get his share of the blame for poor shooting, but Harrison's numbers are far from numbers that every Big East coach would love to have. Looking at Branch's numbers, and you can easily see while we started winning as soon as he started, and despite some difficult games, why we look much worse without him.
