D'Angelo Harrison Transfer rumor

I may transfer from this board to another college if I don't have to wait a year..
I can get a hardship waiver from having read all the posts for at least ten years.
Then again that may be evidence to get be transferred involuntarily into a mental institution

Probably don't want you. In-patient care is very costly and you are probably not a danger to self or others. On the other hand, referral to an out-patient clinic might work for someone with a history of commuter school affiliation

WE should stop listening to rumors Glad he is staying but even if he left we would get a replacement The team had no chemistry Changing many may be a good thing

You can't replace 18 PPG in a season. You can only hope the returning players have incredible summers and develop. That has not been this regime's strrong point.

The team having no chemistry is a shame because the core were all juniors and 4 of the players were teammates prior to even being here.

The team having no chemistry was no Harrison's fault. We had 3-4 big men (one left) that consistently tried to do things their skill sets did not allow. Lavin's biggest weakness as a coahc is letting them get away with that crap. Who cares if our big men are less talented this year as long as they do what htey are supposed to and don't pretend to be somethign they aren't.

Lavin's biggest weakness may be recruiting (some) kids who don't buy in to the team atmosphere. He suspended Obekpa and he benched Sampson in favor of a walkon. He has asked kids to leave when they would not comply. He needs to identify kids who want the team to succeed more than they want to showcase their individual skills.

Can't argue with much of what you said. Would it not be fair, considering the very competitive salary SJU pays SL, that he should get that by now? This is not his first rodeo.

Sampson was part of the first class, when Lavin was just trying to put together as talented a lineup as possible. He was too talented not to try to keep after his Prep year. Sampson seems like a good kid. The problem is that he lost that year. He felt that he was as talented as, if not more than, Harkless. He is now two years behind and desperate to get to the NBA. He felt he had to do what it takes to get himself drafted.

Obekpa had such an impressive shot-blocking ability. Hard to pass on him. Also, it is difficult to assess what kind of attitude a kid will have. You watch him play and meet him a few times. Hard to predict. If it was easy, there wouldn't be so many suspensions and transfers throughout college basketball.

Obekpa was the consummate team player at OSNA. He didn't beg for the ball and he altered everything on the defensive end. Some of the knocks on him are unwarranted. No one knows why he left and are just speculating.

Sampson and D'Lo (not sure why he always get left out of the discussion) were constantly gunning for points. I do believe he wanted the W more than Sampson but I've seen him pad his stats since he was a freshman.

Lav enables it. D'Lo saved Lav on more than one occassion so he gets a pass from him I guess.

I do agree that a lot of what is being said about Obekpa is speculation. I am guilty of it (hypocrisy). As for D'lo, he was basically made the focus of the offense after Harkless left. I don't think he was doing anything that the coaching staff didn't ask him to do. If he and Sampson could have complemented each other the way he and Harkless did, combined with a deeper supporting cast, we would have had a much better team. Unfortunately, it didn't happen.

I stay pretty quiet lately, because many squabs with certain early years posters led to me not enjoying my team or this site. That being said I am really sickened by some of the straight up player bashing that has been going on. Bash Lavin all you want. Bashing starry eyed kids leaving for the NBA...ridiculous...its their dream and they should be able to pursue it. Bashing kids who think they can do better elsewhere....considering some of the coaching fiascos who can blame them. I made numerous decisions when I was younger that were based on what I thought was best for my future. Bashing kids who score a lot...uhm they score a lot because they thrive in chaos and our offense is usually chaos. They are thriving with what they are given. Kids ball hogging...I didn't see a coach pull a kid and say run the play don't pad your numbers.
They are young men and a lot of there decision making has to do with the lack of a coaching staff that can build a cohesive team. A lot of their decision making has to do with a coaching staff that doesn't have a clue as to how to design an offense that suits the strengths of the team. A lot of their decisions are made by young men who either aren't being taught or held accountable for playing fundamentally sound basketball by the coaching staff (i can't count how many failures to close out on a 3 point shooter I saw this year or times where i watched our team admire the other teams boxing out abilities).

And I would like to add, despite his problems with his temper/attitude early on...DLo has stayed the course. When many might have quit and sought greener pastures, he stayed loyal to this team. I will take a loyal kid with flaws any day. I will take four more years with DLo if we had them. Having been an SJU fan through the rough years I appreciate anyone who doesn't jump ship just because things are tough. Loyalty, in my book, is a much more valued character trait in life than rather they score too much on an offense that is (un)designed for whoever can create their own shot.

Agree with bucket head. Add that Harrison provided team leadership that did not come from our 2million dollar coach
