Daily News- St. John's MUST return to The NCAA's

I don't know but hearing Lavin use the Harkless thing as an excuse absolutely sucks. His health problem is one thing but our roster collapse was quite another. Big time programs just don't get stuck playing with six players and overplaying recruits like we did. Lavin was invisible and let Dunlap serve his own needs with ultimately predictable results. Now to hear it as an excuse is Normesque and beneath Lavin for the bucks he gets.

Disagree He would have had Mo and jakarr for a season which he is right would have propelled us to the NCAA It was Mo's decision to leave and go pro He like all great players follows the $$$ Coached supported him and at this point can not find fault with his direction for the progran. Although I get impatient for top recruits every year But they will come

He is only stating the truth. How many recruits can you bring in at once. He was sick and still signed Branch,
Besides Dunlap rode his stewardship to money and fame.

Yeah, Coach stinks. Bring back Norm.

Yeah. Lavin is an idiot. Who chooses to have like 10 or 11 seniors all at one time? This Lavin character has caused nothing but trouble for our BIG time program that Norm built for us. I wish more "fans" saw things as clearly and obvious as you do, bobby knobby.

Personally, I think we should have hired Isaiah Thomas to straighten out the roster mess NR left as a result of fighting for his life at the expense of the long term good of the program. Isaiah could have at least saddled the players with huge salaries in addition to screwing up the roster for a few years. You probably love the Dolans and thought Donnie Walsh messed up the Knicks also.

Wash, rinse, and repeat.

Either take credit for Harkless' NBA success or use his loss as an excuse. Not both. I posted that Dunlap wouldn't last the day it was announced so what was accomplished? Lavin continues to turn his nose up on serviceable roster filler players and gets caught short. Take a look at our commitments for 14 and 15 if you disagree. If Sampson and CO leave early will that be the next excuse? Smell the coffee.

I agree. I'm also worried about the recruits for 16, 17 and 18... possibly 2019 but giving him the benefit of the doubt at this point. Still a little time for that class for him to work on his mediocre recruiting skills.

Once again it's his W/L record that matters. Recruiting is a byproduct of that. We'll see what this year produces.

Has the teams record not improved with his recruits over the 2 years that they've played? It would seem to suggest that this year they'll improve even more because of depth, talent and experience. Just because you may have certain expectations in your own head about what their W/L should be doesn't mean that it's correct. I feel that you expect them to go like 26-8 this year and anything less is failure. He is building a program here. Takes more than 2 years to do that. 1 of those years he wasn't even coaching his own recruits... granted no excuse to not coach when you have cancer... as Dr. Leo Marvin once said "baby steps, Bob"

The What About Bob reference is ironic and great in the same breath!

The team should have done better last year. The problem was not youth or Harkless not being there, it was poor offensive coaching. Lavin has remedied that with the Whitesell hire.

26-8 would actually be a dissapointing record given this teams talent. They really shouldnt lose more than 6 games and anything less than Elite-8 would be underperforming. Anything less than Sweet-16 would be failure.
They should realistically enter this season with National Championship ambitions

There are so many factors to consider. I would be insanely happy with 26-8. That would easily put them about 10th in the country. Any team on any given night can win a game no matter major, mid major etc. We are going to lose games that are a surprise and win games that we probably wouldn't have. Let's focus on making the ncaa's with this team and hope we are clicking at the right time to make a nice run. I think by having such high expectations in your head, even a really good season you'll look at as failure

While I may have similar expectations, there is something about shoulding on people that I find offensive.

Nah, 26-8 would put the team nowhere near top 10. We dont have Pitt, L'ville, UConn, Notre Dame on the schedule anymore. Far weaker conference, will need to have a much better record to reach the top-15 area.

St Louis in a weaker conference than what ours will be this year was like 27-9 and was like ranked 12th or something. I'll agree maybe not top 10 at 26-8 but def top 15.
